Have another go Teddy. (And probably very very many more.) You may get the point eventually. ('Kinell, it really isn't that tricky if you follow what's been - perfectly clearly - said.) Patronising? That’s a long word isn’t it? Well done. You must be a very smart chap. Comparatively. If that’s the word.

You really ought to check your understanding of a word's meaning before you attempt to brandish it as a weapon. Tends to be less cutting if misused. No matter though, I've no interest in engaging an online squabble. The point you chose to ignore is that the explanation given is very straight-forward. You'll get if you really try.

Meanwhile try Googling white carpet, black carpet and black and white carpet. Apparently the same algorithm doesn’t apply.

OK, but that’s not the issue is it? Forget “black and white” and search “white”. No black. Don’t enter black. Just white. On its own. Just that. You really don't get it do you? Its not what is typed in the search that matters! It's how the algorithm responds which does.

Right. Meanwhile try Googling white carpet, black carpet and black and white carpet. Apparently the same algorithm doesn’t apply. An image-search of "white carpet" does bring up black-and-white carpets within its offerings though. Not loads, but enough to support the explanation, I would say. And a sizeable number of other colour-and-white offerings too. Not the same apparent disparity as with the equivalent 'couples' search, but enough to suggest there is a credible argument against an agenda or conspiracy, I would say. It's the eyes you see with.

Now look at what you get when you put 'White Couple' into a search result using the Google algorithm. Very simplistic argument, and you almost had me. Try typing 'white teenager'. The algorithms are not as perfect as your theory would suggest, to allow for that level of sophisticated rigging without damaging the usability of other search results. Also note that the sources and articles attached to the images that appear in search also influence the score given to each image. So an article that is authored or features a black person with 'white people' in the title is just as likely to appear depending on popularity and a whole host of other criteria defined by the algorithm, as an image with nothing other than 'white' and 'person'/'people' in the criteria. Such as this one, which appears in the second line of the 'white people' search, but with a photo of Chris Rock. On the surface, it would seem to validate your argument. But if you just pick once and read the headline, it validates mine. [Link] In fact, most of the 'black' examples that appear as results link to articles that have 'white poeple' as a core topic or subject, but authored by a black person. This is a classic case of surface level viral nonsense. Perhaps ironically it demonstrates that black people are creating more content about white people than actual white people. I'll leave it to others to discuss why that is. Now, if I were to type 'people' in as a search topic, and more black than white people came up, you might have held my attention more. But then again, that could simply be due to more articles or content on 'people' being written by black authors or with black people as the subject. Which, actually then reflects back a societal 'bias' rather than the algorithm containing bias. Much like AI, which is anything but impartial – it is simply reflective of the inputs it is given to process.
Did you know? 98.0000001% of people are morons. |
