Interesting thought. I am certain some players practice in falling to earn the penalty. Or to be more precise: practice to dive! Would like to see a rule change coming in alongside VAR that penalties are only given when a direct goalscoring chance would have followed.

An interesting idea, but I think such a law would lead to chaos in matches that didn’t have VAR ie most football matches.

Palace since 19 August 1972. Palace 1 (Tony Taylor) Liverpool 1 (Emlyn Hughes)

Not sure if this is relevant to this thread but when a game is 2-0 and a commentator says “the next goal is really important “ drives me nuts. Don’t know if that counts as a cliche or just bloody annoying.

Any team - mate / self-appointed expert on the sidelines (especially parents at youth matches) who watches two players collide or both leave the ball for each other and then shouts, "One of you!"

Come on, clever dick. Tell one of them by name to claim the ball before the collision happens. Your side might actually retain the ball.

"Outside the area it's given as a foul"
"I've seen them given"
"2-0 is a dangerous scoreline"
"Entitled to go down"
"Take one game at a time"

“Play x academy player, couldn’t do any worse”

Yes they could do worse, that’s why they aren’t playing in the first place.

The cliche I use most is "FFS", for obvious reasons.
