Something more akin to Cuba.

The future isn't going to be better because we have ideological morons at the reins.....and in other cases careerists with no skin in the game and no courage.

A lot of Irish people were involved in the British empire and especially in our wars.

But I take your point about the Irish state itself.

Ireland and Britain are need I say....heavily connected historically.....we have several Irish regiments....great fighting units.

I think Serial realised I was pointing out the point you make. Ireland provided loads of the manpower of Empire but has whitewashed that part of history. There have been decent moves over recent years to rehabilitate the previously unpalatable history of military service in WWI in particular. All countries enjoy their own little, convenient historical narrative. Britain no exception, of course.
On the point of this thread, this seems like a minor incident and should hardly lead to panic amongst the Muslim community. I can imagine increases in security around mosques these days which is a sign of the times I guess. There is bound to be some anti Muslim feeling amongst some people in society. As Serial said, during the troubles there was some anti-Irish feeling. Usually was very restrained and muffled though - even after relatively serious attacks. Most people just think terrorists are pretty mad and don't tar everyone of that community with the same brush.

You say don't tar everyone with the same brush, what are your views on this?

Yep and 27 percent of Muslims is going to be somewhere around 1.5 million Muslims in the country.

I didn't actually say don't tar everyone with the same brush - I said most people do not tar everyone with the same brush. I'm not exactly going to think all muslims are terrorists because 27% of them support the people who carried out the Charlie Hebdo attacks. You would probably find worse polls from muslim communities. I believe around 50% of muslims polled previously believe that homosexuality should be illegal - it is more this kind of thing that I find unpalatable about Islam as a religion.
It is not that gay rights or womens' rights are a big issue for me personally, yet I felt in Europe (largely) we had moved on from persecuting people for their sexuality, beliefs or gender; for me traditional Islam threatens and is incompatible with values Western Europe already struggled for during its history.

Nevertheless, I would say I am not entirely happy with 27% of Muslims supporting murdering scum just for causing offence to their beliefs. That still leaves 73% of Muslims who don't - which I guess is somewhat heartening. Everyone is so touchy over islam these days.

Yeah go figure.....having to scrape off bits of people off of pavements every year is just part and parcel of living in a multicultural Britain.

I mean....Poland and Hungary not having any terrorist deaths....not losing any of its children to extremists.....not being told they are racists by people it gave a home to.

Go figure.

I fully understand your sentiments - although I don't really think that it is as simple as that. If I want to be frank about it, I have many Hungarian and Polish friends but let us say that they would be quite extreme if asked about any different skin colour or religion. In my entire travels in Poland I saw one person with a slightly different skin colour and they were on crutches with a bandaged face. I jumped to conclusions about what happened to him (rightly or wrongly I don't know).
In Hungary I saw no people of a different skin tone. Obviously a stark contrast with Britain. My own personal view is that Britain needed to curb immigration some time ago. I don't think many in the UK are going to quite have the same view on race and religion as many eastern Europeans - although some will. Just to be clear here - I tend to agree (largely but not entirely) with Douglas Murray. So presumably I'm a racist.

Yep, I read Douglas Murray's last book as well.

I'd expect those eastern Europeans won't feel too badly being called racists by morons when they can rest safely in the knowledge that none of their children will get blown apart at a concert.

The politicians and the awful leftists have set this country on a path where the English won't be a majority in their own homeland.....That will also eventually happen to the Scots, Welsh and Irish.

I don't believe most people want a multi cultural society, they want one society. That one society can consist of black and Asian people as long as they are going to simulate and mix with the rest of Britain.

Wearing a niqab is not part of our friendly culture nor is it fair on society.

As someone said if you import 3rd world you get third world and that is excactly what we have and no one asked for it.

I love Britain and love british people of all colours I don't like 3rd world cultures that are fundamentally wrong .

Well yep that's all correct of course.

But back in the crazy country we live in....a senior Police officer in the Met is fighting for his job because he used the phrase, 'whiter than white'.

So while we speak for the common man the people with power in this country are already so far left that we are fecked six ways to Sunday.
