With that in mind...VAR should be consulted EVERY TIME the ball is in the back of the net with the obvious question "is there any reason why it CANT be given?"

My understanding is that The VAR will look at all aspects leading up to a goal that might have been missed, including offside, any offence by the attacking team in the build-up and the ball going out of play prior to goal.

I presume after all the Zaha furore, VAR was not used on Saturday?!

If the referee books the player in question , as he did on Saturday , and as with Capoue against Watford , does VAR get used to overturn the yellow card to make it a red ?
As in , at the moment if the ref does not see some thugerry during the game and does not book the thug , the thug can be disciplined and banned by the FA after , If the referee sees it and books the player no further action is taken.

The only comment I will make about the Zaha furore is that the MoTD pundits and others do not realise that just booking the players for the challenges like Saturdays and Capoue is not protecting him and sending out a message that you get one career threatening challenge on him before you get sent off, and just encourages others to do the same and encourages the rotational fouling.
I am pretty sure that if he had been playing for Man U or Chelsea there would have been two sendings off, and I think that what may well be the thing that eventually will make him move on.

Im not advocating players surrounding the ref (as a qualified and practising member of the dark art) but no one even went up to the player at Watford or the thug at Huddersfield to protest.

We should have at least three including the skipper in the refs face sticking up for Wilf and giving out a bit like for likey. We seem to be being bullied at bit at present.

I want to see a bit more steel in our play, as has been mentioned in another thread, the players reaction after hanging on for 0-1 away win was decidedly mute.

Get em at it Roy.
