Again I'm lost and confused. I think I agree with this. If we want to play a number 9 Benteke has to be the one. Ayew is a different type of player which is probably why we bought him as an alternative style should we need it.

Ayew should start. He scored 10 goals for Swansea last season. I can't even see what the argument is, he is a much better player then all our other strikers. He needs to start. Or at least between him and Bentecke. Sorloth won't make it in the premier league.

Again I'm lost and confused. Wow... Weird how differently we see football as supporters... If I had a choice of Benteke or Murray based on the performances of both over the last 12 months it would be Murray with bells on.
Don't waste your time with jealousy. Sometimes your ahead, sometimes your behind, the race is long. But in the end it's only with yourself!! |

Last night tells us that Ayew has not been brought in to replace the likes of Benteke in our system. He would be replacing Zaha or a winger. Sorloth is our Benteke replacement until Wickham is back, and based on what I have seen of Sorloth, if sick note Wickham can remain remotely fit, he will supplant Sorloth pretty sharpish. Sorloth looked quite poor last night, to play that role you need a bit better close control and a bit more guile and he showed none of that last night, but it was under tough circumstances that he came in. Which is why I said to give defences something different to think about. Our striking options (when all fit) are similar types of striker whereas Ayew can play anywhere across the front and in midfield if needed. If plan A isn’t working you might not want a straight swap sub.
Will this be five? It's gonna be five! It IS five! |

Bentenke played well against Fulham with some good link up play as well as chasing things down. He did not play well against Liverpool and seemed off the pace. I think Watford is a game where he should get more chances, so I would stick with him. It still feels like it's a confidence thing, but given he had a whole season of playing below par even his biggest supporters eventually have to concede and say maybe we need to try something else. I'm hoping Wickham can get fit as I still think he can be a really good player for us. With Ayew and Sorloth as well we do have options, so unlike last season I think Roy will change things if Tekkers doesn't rediscover some form.

The ideal choice would be an in-form Benteke, but I've lost hope. (Of course, Hodgson can't lose hope, because we've got to get something for those 120k p/w wages - hopefully enough to justify renewing Benteke's contract rather than letting a £27 million investment go for free when his contract expires in the summer.) Ayew doesn't seem like such a good partner for Zaha at first glance, but when you think that we looked pretty decent with Andros and Wilf up front last season, I'm wondering if that's a combination which could really work...

Ultimately I would like to see Townsend Zaha up top, Meyer, Kouyate, Milivojevic and Ayew in midfield and the normal back 4, with Ayew and Meyer chopping and changing/overlapping with Zaha and Townsend during the game. Keep the ball on the deck and fizz it about. That would make for an exciting line up - all in my humble opinion. What about Ayew up top with Zaha, and as you suggest, changing and overlapping with Townsend

There is a reason Liverpool paid 75M for Van Dyke .... he showed it last night and made sure Benteke hardly got a sniff of a chance. We will not face many other teams as good as Liverpool. We cannot afford for Benteke not to come good again we have invested massively in him. Yes we have options now up front but we have to keep supporting Benteke. He will get his mojo back. and also the premiership's most expensive goalkeeper who made a tremendous save to keep out Benteke's header after he had out jumped Van Dyke.
