Interesting preparation from both sides. pakistan play a Test Match against Ireland plus a four day game against a county to get used to English conditions whilst England's two stroke makers warm up by playing 20/20 in India and arrive back here in the nick of time leaving no opportunity to remind themselves what red ball cricket is all about Stokes was about the only one to make any runs apart from Cook and Buttler wouldn't even be in the test side were it not for his IPL exploits. 2, 3 and 4 got sod all runs despite playing for their counties prior to this test, where they've also been mostly getting sod all runs.

Maybe a little soon to say this but please let's get another captain. Root is not cut out for the role. He is our best batsman and we can't risk affecting this.

What is the point of Wood? Press commentators have said that he provides pace.....well Stokes bowled quicker than him yesterday. Wood can bowl between 85 and 90 but he's not that scary fast and we have quicker. Olly Stone is probably the quickest in the country right now, capable of mid nineties stuff. England will need excellent technique to survive today, as the pitch is cracking up. It is definitely not a 5 day test wicket, there were cracks noticed by commentators at the start of play ! Let's hope for some application and entertainment anyway, pakistan are actually a very good side.
