Was welling up for Benteke’s penalty. When I heard everyone chanting his name felt so proud of this club and the fans. After the season he’s had for him to know the fans are still 100% behind him must be immense. Great to see the team spirit. Would love to keep Cabaye and Macurthur on board for at least another year. With a couple of fresh faces I think we could have a decent season. Think they’ll both go though and if it’s a dream move for Jimmy to head to Rangers after the player he’s been for us I wouldn’t want to stand in his way. I think that's exactly why Parish/Roy should stand in his way. He offers the team so much energy that I feel he would be hard to replace.

Who is the poster on here (forgotten his name) who doesn't consider penalties as goals? (He bizarrely believes they shouldn't count towards a strikers goal tally!).... I wonder what he thinks about Benteke taking the pen yesterday?? Perhaps a "forensic examination" is required?

Although there was of course Bobby Kellard’s penalty at Selhurst v Newcastle in 1972. He slipped, or lost his footing, at the crucial moment, and the ball skidded forwards at a painfully slow speed. Luckily the keeper had dived ‘the wrong way’ and the ball somehow made it over the line. 2-1 Palace There was a similar one that John Sewell scored (can't remember the game) when the ball seemed to amble across the line. But it went in.

I don't like these Straight down the middle penalties. Surely, if you're a professional footballer, and you practise all day at making the ball do your bidding, you might be able to place it, with sufficient pace and direction, into an unreachable part of the goal. If I was a keeper I wouldn't dive. Anyway, I'm glad for Benteke.

Nice to hand him the ball for the penalty. All I can say lucky he buried it, as Roy looked a bit miffed in the dugout. Not sure about his future. The set up we have without him at the moment seems to be fazing opposition defences and asking a lot of questions of them.

Probably Matteo unless it suits his own agenda about a player

Slightly off subject but I remember an evening game against Chelsea, must be 25 years ago, played in torrential rain, when they had an open goal and the the ball got stock in the mud near our goal line and didn't go in. It might have been andy townsend so its decades ago.

It seemed to work pretty well as a tactic during the penalty shootout with Sunderland all those years ago!

It was the league cup game against chelsea, think we won 3-1. george ndah scored, had a few of them sitting next to me in the arthur and they didnt like me going mad 3 times, the one next to me was a giant and obviously thought his sheer size would stop anyone celebrating next to him, even in their own end!

I think he would have wanted tekkers to miss, im sure of it actually, he also didn"t count a pass by benteke to sako leading to a goal as an assist , think its a benteke thing ! fortunately the post on this thread are a lot more encouraging!

There’s a small write-up on HOL ‘Top 10 League Cup Victories’ or similar.
