I am against having a day like this, regardless of colour, it will only perpetuate this awful event, the mother Mrs.Lawrence wants to 'draw a line' after 25 years but now there will be the opposite, forensically examined each April and the community ever further from healing. The public are not responsible for what happened at all and should not bear any guilt imposed by Mrs May. I will not be observing it personally or any other of Mrs May's micro managing of people's lives. She can get stuffed. I think we all know exactly why May is doing this. It is just another loopy extension of pandering to minorities for votes with no concern for the rights or feelings of the majority.

BBC's Question Time likes to think it allows audiences to put difficult questions to it's panel, but I bet it won't allow 'Does the panel really think the Stephen Lawrence murder merits a memorial day?'

This cannot be true. Do we as a nation ignore Blakelock They should all have "days" as well All those died in horrific headline-grabbing circumstances. Front page news, all of them. Lawrence died in a grubby, murky stabbing in Eltham and yet his name lives on. That's because Lawrence's murder was unique to those others as the wider issue that came out was the whole issue of Police institutional racism as outlined in the MacPherson report. An issue whose rancid odour still permeates UK institutions - Windrush being an ongoing example. To my mind, thats the point of a memorial day - not Lawrence per se. Having said that Im against the idea of a 'Stephen Lawrence memorial day' as the idea is confusing. The confusion will only make it contentious.
When the time comes, I want die just like my Dad - at peace and asleep. |

I don't think that's a difficult question to answer for the panel. They will all be lining up to outdo each over in saying its a great idea.

I am fed up with this government pandering to the minorities at every turn. an SL day is a complete joke. Wouldn't be surprised if the new royal baby is names Arthur, Stephen, Lawrence, Windrush Cambridge. Giving compensation to Windrush "victims" will just create a whole stream of claims for those looking to make a quick quid and dupe our useless authorities. Just look at the scams going on following Grenfell. It is easy to forget all those who have died at the evil hands of others, this list is far too long to make here but in this age of social media it is easy for antagonists, left wing loonies, do gooders and the like to create a sh*t storm of invect, abuse and noise to jump on bandwagons they know little about. And to announce it on St George's Day of all days. A sad indictment of a once great nation. Edited by fromtherope (24 Apr 2018 4.28pm)
I am enjoying being back at Selhurst and having a beer with my mates just like we have done for the past 40 years. Through Thick and thin we stick with our club. Not chairman, players or managers, OUR CLUB! |

Edited by fromtherope (24 Apr 2018 4.28pm) If a minority (or a majority for that matter) has been wronged then putting that right should be considered a moral obligation. Executing one's moral obligation is never 'pandering'. The idea of not compensating Windrush victims on the basis that, as yet, only two people (Joyce Msokeri and Anh Nhu Nguyen) have been convicted of fraud in relation to Grenfell seems ludicrous. Hardly an epidemic of fraud. As I'm sure you're aware, St George was of Greek parentage, born in Turkey and brought up in Palestine. As this debate seems centred around ethnicity, it seems entirely appropriate to announce it on St George's day.

Hasn’t the mother done very well out of this palaver ... yes she lost her son but she’s now a Dame and has gone from a gritty council house to a large country house somewhere? If anything SHE is the only person to benefit from this ... at her deceased son’s expense.
They say hard work never hurt anyone ... but why take a chance? |
