This is an interesting read. Turns out the law basically already offers this guy the protection he needs as long as it was ‘reasonable force’. If he thought his life was in danger then he should be fine.

Still, all fun and games seeing the tabloids and you lot frothing over things without understanding them fully.

Let's not forget he had his disabled wife in the house. I think I might have gone all medieval on the robbers if I though my loved ones were in danger.

''A pair of pliers and a blow torch'' ?

I think that's pretty much what everyone's said - I was pleasantly surprised by the total lack of frothing!

As long as it doesn't turn out he did a Tony Martin and shot a fleeing burglar, he'll be fine. I think if there was any "frothing" it was that it seemed pretty clear that he shouldn't have been arrested in the first place (given also the disabled and presumably traumatised wife)

burglar was described as 'a gentle giant', but armed with a screwdriver and accompanied by a colleague.

homeowner was 78 with a disabled wife.

self defense. Fair enough.

Yep, there's maybe one or two posts that are slightly OTT, but even the tabloids covered the "what you can do to a burglar" within the law stuff.

It looks like the Cops have just let the pensioner walk free.

Good.

predicction :
he will sell his house in Hither green and move somewhere more peaceful than Lewisham.

It’s almost as if the Police followed the law and procedure as they should do to get to the right outcome. Disgraceful.

Only in this country would we do this along with persecuting run of the mill soldiers doing their duty in Iraq or Northern Ireland for purported 'War Crimes' but let Peadophiles run amok in Northern 's***holes' almost with Impunity. Where are all the Celebrities & other Luvvies denouncing this madness? Their silence is deafening, I'm guessing this 78 Year old doesn't suit their agenda in that he's white & working class. He's the 'wrong' sort of the victim I'm guessing.

This post has aged well.

Never said that but in this case it is. The police did what they had to do in arresting him on suspicion of murder in the first place and now he’s rightfully walked free facing no further action.
