Interesting that regionalism is still perfectly OK. Had it been a Black person there is a fair chance that it would have been racially motivated, or at least perceived that way. In that case the Crime and Disorder Act 1998 as amended for racially aggravated assault would have likely operated. So you are probably correct. But it wasn't a Black person so why do you mention it? In this case his motivation is unlikely to have been racial. Maybe for him it would have been better had it been a Black person because he would probably have thought twice given the higher jeopardy. Well, had he done it and had he not done it because of her race then it wouldn’t have been racially aggravated assault. Quite simple really. And as there was no apparent racial motivation in the carragher case I really don’t see the reason for this discussion.

Isn't all this "what if" a bit daft as it wasn't so the argument is irrelevant

I am not a fan of Carragher however he has publicly apologised and more importantly spoken directly to the family. I understand that they have accepted his apology and do not want him to lose his job. Sky now has to decide is he worth the grief they will get if they keep him. Having been a manager I am in the forgive and forget camp, its easy for people to demand a sacking. In the past I have done stupid things and luckily for me I have had bosses who were mature enough to understand that it was just that rash stupidity. When I became a boss I remembered their wisdom when one of my staff stepped out of line. The easy route for Sky is to sack him however when the "victim" has said don't what would be the point other than pandering to the blood lust of the twitterati?

Edited by Mapletree (12 Mar 2018 9.49pm) Because I'm commenting on the double standards that exist in the world of politics with regard to 'race' today while hinting at the driving force behind them. I mention it in relation to this because we have recently seen how the media and sport along with politicians pander to minorities as with the case of Eniola Aluko. It's all about appearances and profit. Had Carragher just said anything derogatory about a Black, Asian, gay or even female person , never mind spat at them, he would be sacked already, even if what he said was justified. I know you would like to silence opinion on this matter.
