When Niasse's brother wanted a brown paper envelope we should have given him one, a season ticket, a dinner date with the crystals and a free pass to Speroni's restaurant, if that is still going.

Dont make a habit of doing that but we were in desperate need, the club had targeted Niasse, had him in the building, and then didnt get it done.

Wouldn't have made a blind bit of difference because the deal hinged on the same from Everton for his other agent (cousin) as a 'selling fee' & they stuck two fingers up too.

What SP should have done is identify targets early & put a time scale on offers then agents like these two wouldn't be able to punt their client around the market to see if anything bigger rocks up then accept our offer at the last knockings.

Why do folk think signings are easy business when you haven't got billions sloshing around? I doubt we are seen as an attractive destination for many established players & clearly have to pay over the top in both fees & wages to make things happen. That puts us right up against FFP, the penalties for breaching which are now far worse than mere fines which is why even teams like PSG are having to balance the books.

Lets talk Wickham, as some folks mentioned him here. In a vacuum, signing Wickham was good business, he wasnt too expensive and many in the game probably feel he has not fulfilled his potential yet and could be very effective.

The problem with Parish, time and time and time again is he cannot seem to put together any kind of cohesive strategy on anything we do. Wickham had a history of injuries, so great, go out and sign Wickham, but DONT leave the strike force so thread bare by failing in other transfer attempts that he is basically your number 2 guy, in a group of 2, because he has a history of injuries.

Some players are simply more injury prone than others, and many people in the game try to understand why that is, sometimes to no avail apparently. Lo and behold he goes down with a lengthy and serious injury.

The failure of Parish is depth in the squad. When you totally fail to have any kind of depth in attack, then when you get injuries or dips in form (which sometimes are created by complacency when there is no competition) you are opening yourself up to trouble.

Parish really, really struggles to get it done. Look at this keeper we are supposed to be getting in, he is training with us already and still we havent signed him up. We went into the Spurs game without getting that sorted out beforehand. Why? Why cant we ever get something sorted out in a timely fashion?

Something is wrong with the way we operate with the amount of time it takes to get deals to limp over the line, and the amount which fall through at the last minute.

At least learn your lesson Steve? But no, again we go into the last day of the transfer window scrambling around like mugs.

That's a bit unfair. He said a few years ago that the models to follow were Southampton and Swansea.

I'd say he's now achieved that

So, why has this not affected other teams to the same extent then. Do they have different agendas to us?

They didn't start the season pathetically, again, with no points in 7 and no goals in 11. Remember that?

I said earn so many points in total, not lucky in every single match getting the points.

Have you ever noticed how once teams reach 40 points the workrate and results slide? So yes, we were going at it full pelt every match, as Roy pretty much said we were going to, because we were up against it with a pathetic start, again, and it took its toll. How good were we in the closing minutes? We were fighting more when the opposition had us all over them, and them hoping the clock runs out.

I agree with you to an extent on us playing catch up early on, but they are professional sportsmen and supposed to be super fit. Don't forget half the league are in the same boat as us but we haven't seen them generally picking up as many injuries. I genuinely think we have been unlucky to a great extent and sometimes such bad luck can have a massive impact on your season more particularly when our best team probably has always been the pick of say 15/16 players from the squad.

The injuries league table has a top ten made up of clubs around us (other than Manure) but ours seem to have been in more critical areas than many. This is exacerbated by squad quality where we have a number of players who are less able & therefore need to work harder at their game.

It's a fairly simple dynamic - if we had more going forward then there'd be less pressure on the midfield which allows them to offer more protection to the back four meaning less pressure on them ........and so on. With defenders working overtime & putting in last ditch challenges injuries are bound to occur. With a weakened defence the midfield have to offer more protection/work harder etc.

Watford are currently second with 10 first team squad out but they have more depth (at least on paper) than we do & have had less pressure on them thanks to their great start to the season. As soon as it started going wrong with results and a few suspensions their injury toll rose considerably.

As Rudi says, we were chasing our tails from 7 games in so have played 20+ 'cup finals' already.

How could I forget, but after 20 games we were level or above most of them. So are our players only good for half a season's football before they break down? I just don't subscribe to that argument.

They're not breaking down though are they? Fitness has bugger all to do with impact injuries - when someone goes straight through you & breaks your ankle you could be the fittest player in the league - you still have a busted ankle.

If it was all hamstrings & muscle strains, pulls & tears then yes but these are not.

I disagree. If you're struggling for fitness, you're more likely to be off the pace in a game, and in a situation where you may be forced to lunge for the ball, or be slow in reacting to an opponents challenge.

Maybe, but in the context it was used, these injuries are not because players aren't fit enough and "breaking down".

If SP courts the media, of course he's going to get burned when Palace are struggling.
I think what he said on the interview was fairly standard answers to the questions given.
I think people have implied a lot from the way/tone in which SP responded.
In the business world, the only people owners have to be accountable to, is HMRC and investors. Customer satisfaction seems to be a lower priority on occasion.

Seems SP's recent successful seasons have given him and air of invincibility, and this season looks like he may have been caught with his pants down. The fact the interview was to a US radio show makes me think he was attempting to reassure his American friends,...but that is speculation on my part.

I just hope SP has the right footballing advisors around him,...and he listens to them, and acts on their advice. SP has a lot on his plate so he needs to delegate a bit more.
When Manyoo were doing cack under Moyes, no-one seemed to blame the Board. All the cack went to Moyes.
I think it slightly strange that our Chairman is first in front of the firing squad, but then he does put himself 'out there'

for context, he's been interviewed on the show for several years now. it's the only radio station specifically focused on soccer/football. so a good place to market your brand. and he's been doing that for some time, before american investors. comes on around twice per year.

Context is very important, and I thank you for putting it out there.
