If the keeper is barged with great force, ends up on the floor in his goal with his false teeth out of his mouth this is deemed 'Simulation' !!!!

On a more serious note (!), it would all depend on the contact made so a barge wouldn't necessarily result in a yellow card.Keepers are more protected now than they were in bygone days.In general far more challenges were allowed than at present - Just ask Chopper Harris and 'Bites yer legs' Hunter !

No mate marking the pitch with there boot.?!!!!

My apologies Alan - I thought you were referring to the barge!

In response to your question, no unauthorized markings are allowed in this modern day and a caution would be administered if this was to occur. You never see keepers marking their goalmouths any more !

For me
1 Jackson
2 Martyn
3 Barron
4 Kiraly
5 Speroni

Before anyone jumps down my throat over Barron. I know that he was part of the deal where we lost Kenny but he did have a couple of great seasons and was Player Of The Year in 82. He also sat on the England bench a few times when at Rangers.

Interesting thing is, although I can’t comment on Jacko joining as before my time, all the others looked dreadful for their first half dozen games or so....including Nige!

OK somewhat off topic, but associated with this. Years ago I began playing as a keeper for local Sunday league team. Real typical Sunday League stuff, leaving a boot in etc. Played an early game against a very reputable local club with a big old fashioned argy bargey centre forward who was a bit of a thug. Corner comes in, everyone goes up I somehow ended up with the ball in my arms and happened to take a step back. What I didn't know was the big brute of a centre forward was on the ground due to the melee of the cross and I, stepping back, stood full force on his face. Quite understandably this caused him quite a lot of pain and a rather messed up nose and a lot of blood so he had to go off. Of course most people hadn't seen what had actually happened and so the belief was I had gone toe to toe with him, as it were, and done this quite deliberately. With such things word spread amongst the league and I had quite a reputation. For years afterwards I found myself coming off my line in one and one situations only for the strikers to `bottle it` and pull our purely due to reputation. And, for the record I'm very ordinary, if not just plain skinny guy.

Nigel Martyn
Julian Speroni
John Burridge
Gabor Kiraly
Paul Hammond

Quite often a keeper is only as good as the defence in front of him, I’ve always had Nigel Martyn as my all time number 1, but he did have the benefit of having the superb Andy Thorn and Eric The Ninja in front of him for a time, Jules hasn’t had that luxury and has had some clowns in front of him, but has still single handedly kept us in games and won us points in the past despite the handicap, but then I suppose Nige wasn’t always that lucky either.

Paul Hammond made my list simply because he was the keeper when I first started going and when you’re a kid you like everyone John Jackson was just before my time

After going down 1, Nigel Martyn was shown a straight red card by referee David Elleray for a foul outside the box. However, with the score knotted at one after a Bright shot creeped over the line, the Dons Terry Phelan handled a Mark Bright shot on the line, which resulted in his sending off on the "Maradona" rule. The resulting penalty was converted by Andy Gray to give Palace a 2-1 lead. Then Wimbledon lost another man to a second bookable offence and Palace widened its lead to 3-1 before NBC's pundit Robbie Earle pulled one back with a free header that Salako could only watch. With time running down, the Don's super-sub, Alan Cork (dad of Jack) had a dead cert equaliser saved by the quick right arm of Salako, earning chants of "England's Number 1" from the Selhurst faithful. The fixture ended 3-2 to Palace, repeating the fireworks of the previous year's home fixture, also won by Palace 4-3.

I can’t remember which of the 2 Wimbledon games it was, but at one of them John Fashanu (somewhat inexplicably in my view) got loads of “stick” from the crowd as a response to his brother having just come out as gay (or was he revealed as gay? I can’t exactly remember). It wasn’t very pleasant, I’m afraid.

Anyway:
1) our best goalie in my time as a fan was John Jackson
2) my Dad took my sister and me to Stamford Bridge on Boxing Day 1970 (year needs to be checked) when Dave Webb played the whole match in goal. As I recall it, Steve Sherwood was endeavouring to get to the game but didn’t make it in time.
3) my sister only ever went to one other football match. I can’t check the year at the moment, but it was Palace v Charlton and Jerry Murphy scored

Palace since 19 August 1972. Palace 1 (Tony Taylor) Liverpool 1 (Emlyn Hughes)

Thought Barron was awful, are you sure he was on the bench for England?

That was the 4-3 classic played in October 1990. It was broadcast the next day on ITV as "The London Match" and Brian Moore called it one of the great matches of the season. The build-up was dominated by the pundits saying it would boring with a comment made that only the physios would get a workout. John Fashanu got tremendous and in my view unfair stick for his brother Justin coming out as gay. I think the wolf whistles and other nonsense led to his creating an absolute cracker of a goal, a chip from the right top of the 18 over and across a stranded Nigel Martyn and into the left side netting. It was a see-saw match, with Wimbledon opening the scoring through Stuart Magee only for Geoff Thomas to equalise with a trademark power header Andy Gray scored the third for Palace from a very intelligent knock-down header by Mark Bright, who scored the winning fourth goal (why isn't he a manager?). John Humphrey also scored in that match from a rebound. Stuart Magee added a second and The Dons third before the final whistle. For a YouTube highlights video, go to:

All seven goals were really of the highest quality, both in build up and finishing. When the Eagles and the Dons got together, plenty of really good football was played. Take that, Jeff Powell, you footballing illiterate!

Happy memories (re the 4-3). Unfortunately, there was a lot worse than wolf-whistles aimed at Fash. But I have to say that he took it all and - as you say - it seemed to spur him on.

You're absolutely right. I've managed to block out the really nasty stuff. I remember escorting a few of our more "intelligent supporters" out of the Arthur Wait and The Croydon Advertiser terrace (Whitehorse) for making really high class remarks. As Pink Floyd once observed, "No dark scarcasm in the classroom..."

I think Martyn just edges it over Jackson on athleticism

It was not just us that hold him in high regard

Leeds
"On 10 April 2006, he was voted as part of Leeds United's greatest team being the only player from after the Revie era to be part of the team.[5]"

Everton
"David Moyes said that he would miss Martyn as he was his "greatest ever signing".

As I stated above, in 1970 when Jackson was in his prime, Ramsey did not even rate hism in his top 6 English goalies (though he was mistaken)
