I have a step daughter that is a vegan and one that is a veggie and I'm more than happy with some of there substitutes such as vegan mayo, quorn mince, veggie burgers etc....but i love my meat...but like everything...it's about balance.

The Tesco own meat free range is supposed to be good and obviously good value compared to brands. Their burgers are pretty good. The onion taste makes it.

Soya mince is now ok. Quorn chicken is not.

Meat eating on the decline? The hour long queue at my butchers on the Saturday before Xmas would somewhat contradict that.

As I may have said before, I fully respect the decisions of the no-meat no-dairy no-whatever eaters, but unless I am medically required to do so, I'm giving up NOTHING.

Everything we do should be based on 'choice' but a well informed one rather than an ill informed one.

The problem lies with determining which is which...

Look, can we have one thread without someone bringing Brexit up please.

'says dairy industry award winner if people continue to choose alternatives.'

From the OP and that's the key for me, it is about choice.

I am not vegan and need milk and cheese in particular but over time have been gradually less comfortable with eating meat.

We had no choice and knew nothing about any alternatives just ate what was there so its good we are more aware now.

You are simply not required to give up dairy products particularly meat if you don't want to.

Linda McCartney 1/4lb burgers are excellent, taste better than any beef burgers I have tasted.

Well that's their challenge then isn't it, to adapt, find viable alternatives.

But I can't see milk especially and cheeses being much less in demand.

Eating dead animals is harmful to physical and mental health I think that's how people are feeling.

But they sure taste good.

Utter twaddle. Sensationalist statement designed to make some idiot publish it, and it worked.

Funny thing about milk, it took thousands of years of humans drinking milk/consuming dairy to actually have bodies that could tolerate it.
Early adopters found the stuff pretty toxic.
Lactose tolerance is in fact a mutation.

I eat meat, I have wanted to cut down my meat intake for years & I seem to do well for a week or two before breaking & gorging myself on as much meat I can force down me.

As Stirling said lab grown meat being produced on an affordable industrial scale is really not that far away at all.
When it does arrive it will transform the world, we can then consign the unethical world of livestock farming to the history books.

The mountains are calling & I must go.

Can you please explain why you have asked me to explain?

No. You explain why you have asked him to explain why he has asked him to explain.

This could go on a long time
