Exactly. If Cabaye is going to play every game to the end of the season then we need to rest him as much as possible as well. Looks like this lad could be a nice option to bring on. Or do we assume Benfica gave him a five year deal because he's crap? Cabaye out injured today so Rakip could be a timely signing, if he´s good enough

Ffs our transfer policy is absolute crap. Looks like desperation move. Looks to me like we are going to bring in young international players for reasonable money and wages, whilst moving on dead weight like Mutch and Chung Young Lee on high wages with the purpose of bulking out the squad. I am then hoping that the money saved will allow us to buy a couple of top notch players and still keep us within FFP. That’s the way I’m seeing it anyway.

I would think that Hodgson was confident in working out which of them will be decent in the PL (like Milivojevic, who was excellent from day one, and Riedewald, who looks good now that he has found his niche) and which will be s***. If that's the case we'll be saving about 50 - 75% compared with the preposterous imposts demanded by PL clubs for moving on people like van Dijk. Some of these CVs look unprepossessing, but Hodgson and Freedman between them should be able to sort the truffles from the turds, shouldn't they?

I hope your right but the flaw in that plan is nobody seems to want them, or at least for the money they are on at Palace, can't blame the other clubs either. Lee is a championship player, gawd knows what Mutch's level is. Think we are stuck with them.

Am I the only one thinking that Roy's history, and no doubt connections, in Sweden will have a lot to do with this interest?

According to this match report, we've already signed him on loan:

Hodgson is supposed to have said this: "One's 23, and the other boy Erdal Rakip is only 21, so we're trying to invest a bit in the future too. " Doesn't sound like someone he's intending to send back in the Summer.

Rakips agent is the same (I think) as Robin Olsens. That's the only way this transfer makes sense. Crystal Palace asked about Olsen, got info (that Olsen would be way easier to get in the summer), and asked the agent if he had any other players available. Rakip signed for Benfica, didn't want to go on loan to another club in Portugal, so they needed to find another solution. Good timing for everyone involved. To be honest, he wasn't good enough to be a starter in Malmös central midfield. He was however top 20 in swedish Allsvenskan in 2017, but in a weird midfield role. Right winger in a 4-4-2, but he got to drift inside as much as he wanted to. Neither a winger nor central midfielder. Got to be the match hero with goals(/assists) in a lot of games, but not really dominating games. His strengths? He's not reliable on specific ones. He's running around a lot, trying to get involved by passing the ball, likes to find spaces where he can finish attacks, but I think he would like to define himself as a good passer rather than an attacking dribbler. He performed better at Malmö FF in 2017 than Pawel Cibicki, who's now getting some games at Leeds. But still, I think the idea is here that Rakip might get a few subs to see if he can surprise. Very cheap and covering up some positions, but it's kind of a bad rating for Crystal Palace Academy to not have someone of equal quality lined up... He's not even discussed for the World Cup squad for Sweden (unless he's a success at Crystal Palace). Half a year ago, he couldn't even get into Sweden U21 (although that might say more about their manager than Rakip, he should've been on the bench in that Euro, plus he took one or two more steps in his development during the autumn).
