Add to that Stoke, West Brom and Southampton who are all having much worse seasons that the past couple (footballing decision making mistakes very much at heart of their problems). Not forgetting Newcastle who are a bit of a basket case. Then there's Brighton and Huddersfield and Palace, and you've got 11 clubs, all of whom are in similar situations in terms of the football side of the club. Saying us and Swansea are the only side consistently near the bottom, or in peril of relegation "year on year" is clearly ignoring reality. Any of the 11 clubs I've mentioned could go down this season and those that don't will be in danger in most seasons. Brighton and Huddersfield just came up. You can't expect to be top ten material in your first year. We've been here five years now and nothing's changed. Stoke and Southampton may be struggling now, but that was after they had several years of stability, consistently in the top half. We haven't. Don't know why you brought up Burnley to be honest because they prove my point better than anyone. They've been here less than two years and they're 7th! If they can do it, why not us? Under Pulis and Allardyce we were battling relegation for most of the season. Same with Pardew's first season. Not to mention the great collapse of 2016. A lot of those finishes are false positions that don't reflect how our seasons have really been. In reality, we've been anything but comfortable, and with five years worth of TV money, not to mention Harris & Blitzer's investment into the stadium, that's beyond a joke.

Armani is correct that we start off poorly, squad unprepared, not having a full line up to work with during July or August until we've played 3 league games and possibly another or 2 as the international break comes up leaving little opportunity for the manager to get things going. We then spend plenty of time in the bottom 6 and hope that the perfect man for the job is available to dig us out of the sh1t. Each time, apart from one summer under Pardew this has happened. This is undeniable. Thankfully parish knows a saviour when he sees and senses one in the market otherwise we'd be gone. When you look st those finishes, and if you were there, it doesn't evoke feelings of what a smooth, solid and stable season but more of a 'phew, thank god for that and those few outstanding giant killings.' For the record I'm now interested in how Parish has addressed things moving forward rather than bringing it up again, unless of course we end with just Benteke again and 1 keeper come 1st February, but hinting our seasons were comfortable because of those eventual climbs out of the sh1t were a sure thing are far from true. Hopefully everything's in hand and works out.

I know someone else brought up Burnley but it baffles me how fans look at one team at its peak and think 'why not us?' You're right we've been anything but comfortable but hopefully now there's a highly respected manager which generally means Parish listening and freedman, hopefully it'll be more prepared and professional at this level. Hold tight and moan like hell if you have to in the last few days or 1st February. Will be better for you.

I listened and I thought the guys have parish quite an easy ride and he did dodge various questions, though it was still quite interesting despite that. He also had an annoying habit of not finishing his sentences before jumping onto something else, also the guys would often interrupt him when he was about to say something interesting (eg the anecdote he started about the time he was chatting to an agent about the clubs potential). Overall a very interesting listen, well worth it if you're interested in the running of the club etc.

He’s brutally honest, he (parish) has done a lot for this club. Sometimes many fans, including myself, are quick to forget that. Realy cant beleive people still keep saying this everytime someone mentions king parish in a bad way. Yes we all know what hes done time to move forward. Are we ever happy during a transfer window? NO and the reason being is that for whatever reason the club do not do the transfers early. In fact sometimes we leave them so late that if there is a hitch we miss out.

Personally, I don't care who is happy amongst the fans in the transfer window. Everyone has an opinion and nobody knows what they are talking about. It's a time of rumour and specultion and with all the false reports from agents and players trying to move on or get game time, clubs trying to get the best cash back for players that they don't want, need or can'y keep hold of. There is no way we can fully know what is going on until a player is either over the line or not. ...the club do not do the transfers early. In fact sometimes we leave them so late that if there is a hitch we miss out. Did you actually listen to the podcast? What part of what was said on late transfers didn't make sense to you. I would much rather take the word of those who know, than those who wished they knew but have'nt got a clue. What is important to me is not the he said she said but the fact that our club is moving in the right direction, year on year and IMHO, it is and has been every year since we came out of administration.. And long may that continue, would you not agree?

It still mystifies me why some supporters are still whingeing and moaning after a record five seasons in the top tier, plans to expand the stadium, and so many other positives. Do these people seriously expect us to be playing Real Madrid in the Champions League? We are a small south London outfit and we will always struggle to be in the top tier for blindingly obvious reasons. Perhaps I am biased having been around long enough to have watched us in the lower divisions in the '70s and '80s playing in front of a 3,000 crowd? Just enjoy where we are now in a very happy era thanks to Mr Parish and his efforts.

Actually we're not all moaning about Steve Parish at all. Many of us, including this HOL team contributor, think Mr Parish (and his fellow board members) is the best thing that's happened for CPFC in many decades. If supporters can't see the enormous progress the club has made since I attended the last creditors' meeting in 2010 when we were on the brink of extinction, what can you say? Hear hear, spot on

I think Parish does spend quite a bit of time fixing the problems as he does making excuses/ giving his reasons for them. The issue for me is they can get repeated. But now we have a highly respected manager again and a good judge of talent, well hopefully at this higher level than he's worked in before. If you think, we've had good windows with highly respected managers (Pulis and Sam) who Parish also must highly respect, and here we are again. I don't include Pardew in that because the final window was on the back of a dire league run and them both being in each other's arms too much. Pulis and Sam DIDN'T bring in ANY players, they didn't buy them with their money, they recommended the players to they wanted to Parish, who then did the deals, payed the money and is now paying their wages.
