Clearly Speroni at fault. I mean what a prick not being 6 foot 6.

That is why, in my opinion, we should treasure those who are. And, Speroni's number of appearances speak for themselves. My favourite Palace keeper ever was Jacko and I'll never forget standing behind the goal and seeing him somehow turn the perfect penalty around the post from Martin Peters, soon after Peters had become Spurs' then British record record transfer signing from West Ham for £200K. Likewise, I remember Nigel Martyn saving a penalty in a third round FA Cup Tie at Selhurst after he'd left us for Leeds. The Palace fans behind the goal all started chanting 'dodgy keeper' after the save and the big Cornishman turned around and gave us his massive grin, knowing that altho he wasn't with us anymore he was loved at SP. We should treasure our greats. This thread has nothing to do with Speroni against Hennessey. it is just about recognising that a player who has played 400 times for the club thro 'thick and thin' deserves to be recognised for his achievements. So, if you play on Tuesday Julian I will salute you and thank you for your massive contribution to our club. COYP

Maybe, maybe de Gea or Courtois gets closer. But then again, maybe not. That was an amazing goal. If he'd been on his line he'd have saved it but would have been in the wrong position. I hope to cheer on Speroni tomorrow - a Palace legend.

I fail to see the mistake. That was a thumping shot and neither keeper and most keepers in the premier league aren’t going to get near that. Not getting drawn into another debate with you and what’s done is done. You started a campaign to have JS replaced in goal the first time around. Now he is back and doing fine in goal you’re back to your old tricks. Just pointing it out. Not that I really need to. Edited by Brentmiester_General (10 Dec 2017 6.58pm) That is a lie - I did not start a campaign to get rid of JS. YOU started the two-year abuse of WH when he replaced the injured JS. Re your other comment that JS is doing fine - do you not consider him at blame for the second Everton goal then, or is that someone else's fault? What about the weak header at Newcastle that went over his head and cost us a point? Isn't it amazing how every goal that JS concedes is a world-class shot, yet according to you WH was at fault for every goal he let in? Why not accept that JS's strength is in reaction saves from close-range but that he is not so good from distance where he is often beaten due to a combination of poor-positioning and his lack of height?

Let’s hope that he is in goal to put in the type of performance we all know he is capable of.

Somewhat similar to that Kasami goal for Fulham. Oh my. I don’t know whether to laugh or cry when someone destroys their credibility by demonstrating their complete lack of football knowledge and / or player prejudice depending on how you view it. Kasami, as well as possibly Matt Phillips for QPR have scored the best opposition goals at Selhurst since we came up. Both unstoppable. Defoe’s was not hit as hard, but intentionally or not it was immaculately placed. No keeper saves that. It beggars belief that anyone thinks he could! I don’t believe Hodgson said he could have either, that’s just an outright lie.

First I agree that Jules can't help not being 6-6 but to say no keeper would have saved Defoe's lob is just nonsense. Keepers like Bergovic, Courtois, Cech and maybe even Hennessy who are all 6-6 and that's standing still, with their hands high above their heads their reach would be approx 8 - 6 and a jump in the air of only two feet would make that about 10 - 6. Easily saveable for a keeper 6- 6 tall.

I don't think he could have saved either and went down at Defoes feet to make a very good save. Hennessey, or another tall keeper, may have got to it but that doesn't mean it was Speroni's fault as he can't be blamed for his height.
