Probably about 40 percent sounds about right.

Problem is you said, 'I think evangelical Christians are pro-the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, because they think it's part of the end times that will bring about the rapture.'.

The reality is that it is less than half.

You should have said, a 'significant minority' of evangelical Christians'.

Just giving you back some of that 'progressive' BS you sign up for......but only for the groups you like of course.

40% of AMERICANS, not 40% of evangelicals.

I do understand how hard this must be for you, though, trying to explain America to Americans based on the varied and extensive interactions you have with them up there in the Fens.

My mistake.

That's stat isn't really helping anyone's contention on evangelicals. Many general American Christians would sign up to that.

The reality is that there are always groups within groups.

Amusing, I'll give you that.

I grew up in London......I have this things called a television and it shows people talking from other countries.

Guess I have to move to Scotland to know if the Scottish like whisky.

London, Texas? It's a town of about 200 people that would be the bullseye if you turned Texas into a dartboard. Unless you've been to any of the myriad of rural towns like this one, or even the smaller southern cities, you can have no clue how people there live and think.

I grew up in London (UK) and - as I explained earlier in this thread - I learned very quickly that America is very much a foreign country. But, hey, you've travelled the world from your couch so bully to you!

It’s a fact very easily forgotten abroad that such a high proportion of the west’s cultural, political, economic, social, baseball and deep fried edible vanguard is made up of religious nutters.

Just imagine if he did come back in this day and age though? A Palestinian Jew born in Jerusalem, he’d probably be thrown out of Israel by Netanyahu for being anti-Semitic, and executed for Hamas for being a bit too liberal!

He’d probably crucify himself before he got to America. Can’t see him being a fan of Cable TV, the NRA and African American incarceration levels.

Trump would probably ban him because his name looked Mexican.

If he could get in to the US, he wouldn't last five minutes in many of our churches. He'd listen, smack himself on the forehead and say, "Oy vey, what are your saying. Listen I gave something simple like 'Love your neighbor. Meshugenah you screw it up like this!"

Fully agree and now the U.S. has lost whatever diplomatic leverage it had in the region. Add to that, Kushner is our lead negotiator? How are they trying to kid?

I can't see that anybody, other than America and Israel, would say there was even a fig leaf of neutrality or impartiality.

The diplomatic leverage the US has in the region, is "leave Israel alone or else" pretty much.

The wife and I were at the Houston Museum of Fine Arts last weekend. Wandering through the halls, we came across a giant painting of a bloke who looks exactly like Jack Whitehall, wearing but a loin cloth, lounging in a lush and verdant garden. Who was it supposed to be? John the Baptist.

Riiiiiiiiiiiiiight.

Part of the leverage was not recognizing Jerusalem as Israel's capital city because it was being held back to gain concessions from the Israelis on other things - like ending the expansion into occupied territories.

Ignoring the fact that it has pissed off pretty much everyone other than some Americans and most Israelis, Donald "Art of the Deal" Trump just gave away that lever for nothing*.

The US held it back since the mid 90s and Israel expanded/created Jewish settlements in to East Jerusalem well after that, so it wasn't really providing much leverage.

All he's done is tick a box for his core support while pissing off everyone else except Israel, that Embassy will never relocate from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem in reality.

Exactly. Trump has done the superficial thing - recognize the capital city - but will not do the meaningful thing of moving the Embassy. So what was the point? (Other than to give a denture-challenged speech as a distraction from Trump Jr. testifying under oath to the House Intelligence Committee).

The State Department issued to warning to Americans in the region to, basically, watch themselves from now on because Trump just painted a big, red target on their backs.

Well thats a bit much insinuating muslims will naturally react violently and attack westerners. But in truth its correct, and should tell you all you need to know about the region and the plight of hamas.

Laughable how thats being used as an attack on Trump.
