yes, the unemployment thing is already happening with technology, and if anyone knows the taxi sexual assault figures in london last year, its 148 minicab sexual assault/rapes, over half of them by uber drivers, and uber covered these facts up, a freedom request finally got tfl to publish figures, and uber want driverless taxis! whats to stop a company who doesnt want to release rape figures by there drivers, let the driverless taxi in 2021 pick up a package, put in by a terrorist, and deliver it to anywhere he pays for, then said package goes up with a massive bang, customer who paid for the driverless taxi nowhere near, but lots of innocent people victims of the driverless taxi bomb!

...as opposed to now when the driver uses his car as a weapon and then gets out and starts stabbing people (UK) or shooting people (US). And people use cell phones to detonate bomb by remote, so we should ban those too, right?

We don't do possession; we do defense and attack. Everything else is just wa**ing with a football.

Actually, with driverless cars being on the road, there will likely be an uptick in the sport of driving a car really fast around disused airfields. It's right up Clarkson's strasse.

Uber is desperate. Its business model may not allow it to ever make money as long as it has to pay human drivers, spend massive resources to recruit them, and deal with the fallout when they cause problems. So it has been furiously working on self-driving technologies. And now it’s taking a small-scale experimental program to the big league – starting in 2019.
Volvo Cars, which is owned by China’s Zhejiang Geely Holding Group Co., announced today that it has signed a “framework agreement” to sell Uber “tens of thousands of autonomous driving compatible base vehicles between 2019 and 2021.”

I'll still happily pay more and get a black cab.

Thanks for the info, yes, 13000 uber drivers submitted fake criminal record certificates to tfl last january,,,,Fake certificates! transport for london admitted last week they had got in touch with 2500 odd, leaving 10500 uber drivers from anywhere in the world driving under false documentation,,,driving licnces maybe? certainly criminal record checks,,,and over half of 160 odd sexual offences last year by taxi/minicabs were by uber drivers, none by black taxi drivers,,,the stats dont lie!

It isn't disused. When I was there one day a f***ing massive plane came into land right over us.

A self-driving Uber has killed a woman in Arizona.

As is required there was a human sitting in it when it happened. So who's culpable?

This obsession with AI is going to be the end of us. Who’d have thought that the nightmare underpinning the Terminator franchise could actually become a reality?

There is a school of belief that says that connecting with extra-terrestrial intelligence is futile because they’ll have all been wiped out by the monsters they themselves created.

Wife beating may be socially acceptable in Sheffield, but it is a different matter in Cheltenham

I couldn't agree more. They'll automate as much as possible and then lecture us about no one getting any exercise.

The next generation are going to have a serious lack of jobs.

The advance of technology is in transition from making our lives better, to compromising our wellbeing. The next phase will be increased unemployment, heavier drug use, greater social unrest and the further breakdown of accepted values, leading to more violence on the streets.

I am also quite drunk tonight, so I may edit this I the morning...

Artificial Intelligence will never get the better of natural stupidity.

Living down here does have some advantages. At least you can see them cry.

Uber cancel their testing of driverless taxis in the States, as one kills a child.
