That’s bread and butter for a keeper! Does he have any wrists? How anyone can defend that keeping is beyond belief!??

They do defend it and they will. I think they come from a different planet where good goal keeping just doesn’t exist. So they haven’t grown up knowing what a good goalkeeper looks like. It’s the only explanation I can think of.

ew: The footage of the French goal

I love it when commentators say "he should have done better there."

How on earth would they know?

Barry Davies used to say that all the time. "He really should have got that on target!" he tut.

Has Barry Davies had to swivel and volley a fast moving football accurately into a net that's being blocked by an agile super athlete, while young men in peak physical condition hassle him.

No, all Barry Davies could manage was holding a microphone up to his mouth and using the same predictable glib phrases to describe every single incident in the game.

And another thing. The french striker hit a shot which Hennessy did very well to save. He got his foot to the ball and deflected it onto the bar. That is a great save. I couldn't have pulled it off. Could anyone here have done better?

I still can't believe that John Jackson got dropped, all those years ago, to be replaced by Paul Hammond.

I know we need to 'blood the youngsters', to use a 1970s phrase, but still. Jackson had a good ten years in him.

It was straight at him. Lord bless him he tried his best to get out of the way spreading his legs. It went through him.

Thought he should have saved the Greizman goal.

The sad thing with Hennessy is he should be a much better keeper than he is. He has all the attributes on paper, but it just doesn't seem to mesh together.

It’s bottle that he lacks. He’s scared stiff of getting hurt the poor sod. Must have been hellish growing up in a rugby centric Wales as a kid that is frightened of physical contact in sport. His folks must have thought that playing in goal in football would be the safest thing for him to do sport wise. It’s actually odd that he went down the sport route at all. He isn’t really what you’d call an athlete. Looks more like he should be working in an accountants office or something. Maybe he got to where he is completely by mistake and he can’t think of another job that he can do that will pay him as much. I had the same problem for years in a job I hated.

I can't believe people are so cruel.

I think Hennessy has fantastic potential.

You get more out of him by supporting him and encouraging him.

Footballers need to be encouraged. We need to bring out their qualities, not crush their human spirit.

Maybe I'm too soft for this world.

Is there anybody there?

Actually I believe that BG's post is libel and if WH sees it and takes action it could close this site. Being on the Internet does not protect anyone from the law regarding libel.

On another note, that lovely reaction save from a deflection Mandanda made with his foot is exactly what Hennessey is incapable of. We made a right booboo there getting rid of Steve and no mistake.

You obviously missed Hennessey's display at Chelsea earlier in the year.
Getting rid of that useless French lump was a good move, he wasn't interested in playing for us.

Useless French lump that was being courted by teams with Champions league ambitions and pedigree. Think he wasn’t interested in playing for us because he was overlooked for the real useless lump in our squad. And rightly so. Was treated with the serious disrespect for a man of his capabilities and pedigree.

Might as well close the thread now! Libel - Jesus wept!!!

I am an accountant, must be the first time anyone has ever been accused of libel for saying "he should be an accountant"

I can just see the High Court now

"The prosecution alleges Mr BG stated Mr Hennessy was a bit of a crap goalie"

Not exactly Rumpole of the Bailey stuff is it!

And let's assume for a moment it is libel, getting a fan site shut down is hardly going to endear him is it!

You are hardly the person to start talking about disrespect. Your constant posts about Hennessey is obsessive and not showing any respect for the man. He may not be the best goalkeeper in the world, but has done personally to you ( to the best of my knowledge )to deserve the abuse you give him.
The French lump wasn't courted by Champion league teams, he crawled back to Marseille a failure in the Premier league, as he couldn't even keep his place above Hennessey.
