Agnostic of moral outrage, the relevant question is whether or not this would be a good thing for Palace or not? We get $2m in the kitty, but Everton are almost certain to be out of the bottom three reasonably quickly. I think I'd have to take the view that Everton would probably achieve this anyway, so another $2m for doing nothing would be handy. Might not buy a great deal, but would pay a couple of our first team players for another year if we were to go down.

This will come down to whether Everton see relegation as a real threat (and so hire a seasoned campaigner like Allardyce) or whether they are confident enough to build a long-term project and go for an up-and-coming manager like Dyche or Howe. I'm not convinced Allardyce would suit Everton and the players they have, but he would ensure they get a comfortable mid-table finish. Personally I think Howe would be the best option for them as he gets his team playing football and has done this on a relatively limited budget. My money would be on them making a big name appointment like Ancellotti though.

If Alladyce wouldn't suit them, why do you think young Sam, sorry Sean Dyche would? Edited by Dangermouse (31 Oct 2017 9.01am)

There is a lot of speculation on here about the £2m payment. No way will that come out of BFS's pocket. His new employer will cough that up on top of signing fee, salary, bonus money for wins, points, making profits on players, avoiding relegation, loyalty payments, relocation expenses, European qualification etc. plus another mega pay-out when he is inevitably sacked.

Would that be the same Sam Allardyce that kept us up, against the odds, last season? Did you expect him do it for free? He had a break clause in his contract and chose to exercise it, for which I personally don't blame him. He let us down gently (and early); would you have preferred him to say "I can't work with the control freak that runs this club any longer"?
Conversely, it was SA who caused our team to lose 4-0 at home to the bottom team; to lose most of our last games [save Hull]; and to unexpectedly walk out without giving the club a chance to do sufficient due diligence on a new manager [unlike Watford] which is likely to be one of the main reasons why we were rushed into the de Boer hire. I do appreciate he also coached us to stuff the Gooners which almost off-sets the Maccam debacle; but it is the last point that I believe is the primary reason we are in this mess. As such Bex, I think you chose an odd hero.

The much bigger club than us are going for the prem experienced Dyche who (we?) were not interested in? How come? Had enough of notoriously stubborn, like it or lump it Dutch managers?
