He was just to the left in the row behind me and I was one of the fans to help him up to the walkway. He was slumped in his seat for a while and when a fellow fan discovered he wasn't breathing anymore and his pulse had stopped that's when we decided to move him. Although there were plenty of stewards attending the situation, it was quite some minutes before the medical help arrived or anyone apart from us fans took any action.

The last I heard was as someone has already pointed out that they did eventually get him breathing again. Really hope he made it and is recovering.

the defibs do not give out a current if there is a heart beat, so if you have one to hand you cant make things worse, if the person heart has stopped you cant make it any worse, you never know the persons history unless you are close to them then what you do, you dont have time to make a full health history its hard very hard but you must just do CPR with what ever you have to hand. if defib is available use it if not cardiac compression, you will have to do that anyway, as first aiders thats all you have and pray, its the worse thing in life not knowing if you can save them but always try the best you can because you are giving them there best chance

But there's an issue with that - if the 'patient' already has an internal device fitted but no heartbeat the last thing they need is a shock. We were told it's the real reason medics tend to uncover the torso before shocking as most defibs don't need to be in contact with skin to work. They are looking for the tell-tale scars.

CPR is then the answer until the correct kit is available.

sorry my friend you are wrong defibs need tobe in contact with the skin to deliver the shock as they cant read whether the heart is beating or not.
sadly who every is training you is misleading you. all training videos tell you to expose the chest area, there is no time that you endanger the person whos heart has stopped not even if they have a pacemaker or a tens machine fitted, they are by all intents and purposes dead and you are trying to bring them back.
good thing is you care and would do your best to save them

just to keep you informed about the incident on Saturday, Steve Ware from Lymington . a life long supporter of the Palace suffered severe heart problems and yesterday underwent triple by pass surgery.
he is stable and doing well but it will be a long recovery.
his family want to send thanks and praise for the para medics at the club for their prompt action which without doubt saved his life
a big tank to all at the club

This is great news. Well done to all those involved, not just the medical staff but also the supporters who helped out. Your quick actions have no doubt prevented this from being alot worse. You should all be proud.

On the basis that one of the scenarios was a pacemaker & the strict instruction is to never place a pad over or near such a device as a) the AED won't shock correctly and b) it could cause damage to the device which, in turn, causes further injury.

I've not seen training videos but have been instructed by medics from an ICVD team in a leading London hospital as it is critical info for a close family member. They expose the entire torso, not just the chest area as different devices are implanted in different locations - sometimes even on the opposite side to the heart itself.

Whilst it still possible to use an AED on such a patient you have know where & how and this info is not (usually) included within instructions. We have very specific instructions for our particular situation.

More importantly, good to hear he's on the mend - hope he heals quickly.

Great news he is on the mend, very distressing seeing CPR being done. I had to do this a few years back when an elderly gentleman collapsed at Victoria station out where the buses stopped. It was pissing with rain and two pcso’s said we need to move him as he is laying in water ! I just told them to call the ambulance/paramedics and to keep people away. t***s.

Poor chap sadly died. He was on his way to see his son at Christmas. It is stressful for the person doing the FIRST AID, I had to take a few days off work due to thinking about it all, but please do a first aid course as your help can make a difference as this case proves.

Well done everyone.
