When PVA was signed I did post serious reservations about him yet I was pilloried on here.To think we paid an initial £10 Mill for him ! i dont normally agree with your cut & paste willopedia based views but i do agree on this count, if i said when he signed he was a panic buy sub-average signing, and said it a month ago aswell. how on earth SP sanctioned his signing for that fee, on his wages im amazed, he was directly attributed to sunderlands form over the past few years, and is championship standard at best. still were stuck with him & when papes fully fit will fill the bench til his contract expires as i promise this now, i dont think we will ever get offered 50% of what we paid for him! martin kelly is a better player than him.

Rest assured, I don't rush off to 'Wiki' each and every time I wish to provide some details.I avail of it far less than you and many on here believe. We paid an initial £10 Million for PVA - Is this mentioned in WIKI ? Edited by Willo (25 Oct 2017 7.22pm)

He has played well against us in the past but generally for Blunderland he was terrible at defending but quite good going forward.Although this wasn't seen against Chelski & the Toon with missing 2 sitters! Surprisingly Fat Sam who managed him at Blunderland thought he would be a good signing for us!He did score the winner last season against Boro & those 3 points kept us up & that was worth alot more than his transfer fee & wages earned so far! I hope he is dropped on Sat & I have no confidence in him anymore & his error last night was like watching a pub player!

Personally think it's pretty lame to tear PVA down, he's an average player lacking confidence and needs time out the firing line to build his confidence back up. I'd put Schlupp in at left back. Not sure why people bemoan that we signed either of these players as without them we'd very likely have gone down last year. Was a great transfer window signing also Luka and Sakho on loan. Four players the club greatly needed. Couple bad games and all of a sudden it's ridiculous we ever signed them in the first place. Short memories.

The last time we were struggling at left back this badly we brought a kid in by the name of Nathaniel Clyne...remember him? Surely we have a kid in that position that we can give a run out to...as for Suoare he looked hopelessly out of sorts when he cam on (understandably) Unfortunately we don't, the closest to being ready for first team football is young Tyler Brown but he has a very long way to go. In our academy we have a real lack of full backs and strikers

Which is why I started the thread in the first place, he was decent last season in most respects and now he looks completely s***e. Puzzled as to how a player can deteriorate so badly without being injured, vastly unlucky or pardewed.

I hate having to give stick to players but there's a line. Van Aanholt has crossed it. Crossed the line beyond that too.
Winning isn't everything. Without the defeats we would not value the victories. Still, it's a shame we can't play Chelsea every week. |

In reality he needs a Sammy Lee to Townsend type addressing. PVA could obviously play for Sam so I'd get on the phone to him if you need any advice on that one. He's played like a cvnt this season but I think a lot of it came from playing wing back.

Well his strengths are not his defensive qualities. It is well known that he is better coming forward than defending.
