A terrible idea

Until there's a credible source with some actual facts, it's not worth discussing.

I kind of agree with you, in that these private companies are operating in the same way as the old nationalise industries did - without the constraints and discipline of the free market. As you say they can be as cr*p as they like and the government still funds them money. Although it's not quite as bad as nationalisation and the option is there to use a different company.

Nailed it. It's the same "snouts in the trough" mentality, with absolutely zero accountability. It brought change last time and it's time for change now.

Well I think Simon's head is large; always involved in espionage. (Name that tune)

The problem is how to motivate these setups to be efficient and well run. Stalin used to threaten to shoot his managers, but their industries were still c**p.

We have now sunk to a depth at which the restatement of the obvious is the first duty of intelligent men. [Orwell]

Sounds dodgy - however I haven't seen any credible sources as yet (not saying they aren't out there, just I haven't seen them). All we seem to have thus far is a tweet from some random person linking to what seems to be just a Tory-bashing site?

Yep. A google search reveals nothing either.

Maybe if their numbers hadn't been reduced, their career package undermined and their recruitment spannered, we'd have enough police to do their jobs.

Nail... on... head Jamie.

More officers have resigned in the last 3 years than in the previous 40... That's got to tell you something.

And we are talking experienced officers to. Officers, like me who signed up to serve 30 years, paying into a particular pension only for Teresa to pull the rug from underneath their feet halfway through there service.

If you treat people like s*** then don't be surprised if they don't stick around. Although this is exactly what the Tories want as they are saving money on top rate Pcs wages and pensions.

Don't waste your time with jealousy. Sometimes your ahead, sometimes your behind, the race is long. But in the end it's only with yourself!!

Hence the ? in the thread title.

It's not unfeasible with this current lot and their penchant for outsourcing eveything
