It's weird - the left on here springing to the defence of some wealthy drink and drug addict, knife-weilding student, whose mum has a villa in Milan.

Depends on how well they respond to treatment. I had serious mental health problems in my late 20s and early 30s - but with medication I'm not really any different than anyone else. of course put that on a job application, and you'll never get a job either.

If the mitigation and circumstances are such, that the Judge believes that a prison sentence would be 'unduly harsh and not serve rehabilition' in a case where the injury was minor, then its reasonable to show caution.

Certainly, going to prison won't be the issue in terms of her career, it'll be the criminal record.

There are mental health problems and there is stabbing people.

Most people with mental health problems are not a danger to other people. This cannot be safety said here.

Those that are a proven danger should not be medical professionals.

I think Ian Wright might Disagree, or indeed Anthony Joshua. The fact is this is a pure slice of fried headline grabbing gold for those of a certain persuasion, and actually if you look into it, prison is really seen as a last resort in waaaaaayy more cases than your giving the impression of.

Once she had served her time she is free to make of herself what she can. I'm not sure what Wright did but AJ would have had a few months at best....and it would have hardly stopped a boxing career.

Just like anyone else coming out of nick. It is not for society to be doing her a favour over others.

There are loads of cases of dangerous driving where the victim has actually been killed, and the driver has walked, one case was the mother who was found guilty of causing death by dangerous driving, but spared jail "because it would be a violation of her human rights" There was also the guy last year who ran down a couple killing them, who was finally jailed but had about 30 previous convictions for car related offences. A quick search of the internet will show this is nothing like the inequality scandal it is being out to be. Pure headline grabbing

That's a whataboutery argument. The fact that judges also don't jail people for other crimes is not a defence for what has been said as justification for letting this woman off.

Equality is a very easy card to play, much like racism, however as I said a quick search of the internet will show this terrible injustice is actually common place across all walks of life, Jail really seems to be the last resort for all but the most serious of crimes.

Perhaps if some tart stabs you in the leg you might feel differently....or perhaps not......I'd say stabbing offences are quite serious....A person can easily bleed out.

I knew a bloke that went to visit his sister in hospital & stabbed her in the leg whilst she was still in her hospital bed!!
No idea if hes still alive today but that episode was not one of his most outrageous by any means.
(nicking a double decker London bus & crashing it trumps that)

The only thing I would say in her defence as a point to note is she had previously been in an abusive relationship and she had also been drinking heavily at the time of the offence. Now we all know how much alcohol can alter our perceptions and reactions to things which appear to others to be quite trivial. The fact she had been in an abusive relationship in the past may well mean she doesn't have the appropriate coping strategies to deal with conflict and arguments in the new relationship she was in. Hence flying off the handle in such an irrational way and picking up a weapon

Everything is. You just have to look for it.
What shall I have for dinner??
The leftie in me says tofu and Brown rice.
The right wing side of me says hunt a kill something , pose with its carcass and wash it down with a vintage fine wine no phleb could possibly afford to buy with their benefits

Let's find out her politics before rushing to judgment.

I dunno, ex-alcoholics make great addiction councillors, and Kaye Redfield is a leading psychiatrist who also suffers from bi-polar disorder - I suspect more than a few doctors have been done for assorted crimes. The question really has to be whether its reasonable to still consider her as risk.

Now that's not to say we shouldn't be cautious, but often there is a unique perception to these things which only someone who's been 'down the rabbit hole' can understand.

The judge clearly believed that she was no longer a threat to other people (and in truth whilst she did stab the guy, she didn't really try to kill him).

Medical professional is a pretty big field, most of which don't really have much in the way of opportunity to 'kill people' (that's the job of NHS administrators lol).
