Aussies must be favourites.

I'm not so sure. In Cook, Root, Bairstow, Stokes and Ali we have a strong batting lineup and Stoneman likes fast bowling and could score well.

Anderson and Broad are the equal of any opening bowling pair and Moeen Ali is always written off as the weak link by opponents but often ends up making them eat their words

I used to work for a bank that often employed the Hampshire captain (possibly as Colin Ingleby McKenzie was a director) and we often entertained clients at Hampshire games.

I remember taking a client plus his 12 year old cricket mad son to one game and took a photo of Malcolm Marshall with his arm round the lad. My over riding memory is that his arm was wider than the lad's neck

Mason Crane in but no Adil Rashid. Hmmm

Crane is the future but I don't know why Rashid is unpopular with the set up....leading wicket taker in India.

Leach also must be up there.

He wasn't at his best in the test series this summer so will need to improve on his performances to cause the Aussies problems.

And we have had problems with out top 3 batsmen not scoring enough runs.

It's a big test for us 'Down under'.

Gary Ballance, another who has disappointed also included.

I appreciate that Tom Westley hasn't really 'set the world alight' but I would have thought he was a better proposition than Vince.

Aussies must be favourites.

Westley showed technical problems....but so did Ballance......Ballance is Root's mate....so...

I know Vaughan has a hard on for Vince.....won't shut up about how much time he has to play the ball....but he's been tried and failed.

I guess they are thinking about Australia with its pacey bouncy wickets and seeing Vince as more suited to that.

Big big problem for test cricket.

The custodians of the game are in danger of cooking the golden goose.

We could be in for another five nil drubbing......not something I'm looking forward to considering Man City the other day.

The trouble with a young leggie being the future is that they seldom manage to translate their early promise and just disappear.

Scott Borthwick, Max Waller and another South Coast leggie who's name I've forgotten have also been the future of legspin bowling but never managed to make the transition from prospect to actual.

Adil Rashid is the only one who managed to confirm his early promise and is also a capable batsman but never seems to feature in Test teams

The West Indies have problems that could well end up killing them off as a Test playing nation.

There isn't the interest in cricket in the region that there once was. There also isn't much money to pay the cricketers competitive salaries. The inter island rivalry is another huge negative and worst of all is the administration of the game in West Indies which is appalling

All of that is true. You can't blame them at all for chasing the T20 money.

Realistically Borthwick is still a future contender. Waller has never had the press that Crane has. Crane has already spent a season down under and well done but it's a reasonable argument to say it's too soon.

I wouldn't have minded seeing Rashid in there either....why not take him as well, considering how young Crane is. While he seems to be apart of the one day set up they don't seem to rate him test wise.....Did well in India so I don't know what's going on there.

Though as we can see with the Ballance selection.....if you are mates with the 'in' people you get more chances than most....same as life in general.

Why Overton instead of Porter?....I just don't get it.

Overton 44 wickets at 23.18
Porter 70 wickets at 17.40
