This post has been merged from a topic called 'Rickie Lambert .' by kenbarr Not trying to be funny but it would take him about a month to get match fit, well as much as a 35 year old could be ! Better off sticking Jordan much or Lee up front , at least they'd last 90 mins and even if they don't score they'd be as good as big Ben.
oh yeah ,fcuk off brighton. |

This post has been merged from a topic called 'Rickie Lambert .' by kenbarr The Rickie Lambert I remember was good in the air, could receive long balls, hold up play and distribute really well with great long and short passing abilility. He was never fleet of foot but was sufficiently quick witted to compensate.

This post has been merged from a topic called 'Rickie Lambert .' by kenbarr You can also lump in the likes of Kevin Doyle, Andy Johnson and Shola Ameobi. Honourable mentions go to Yaya Sanogo, Patrick Bamford, Loic Remy and Jonathan Benteke. It's amazing a Premier League club with ambitions to reach: "The Next Level" have signed these names in recent seasons. Why bother? I wish I could be party to these decisions so I could sit at the end of the table and when I hear these names simply say: "Nah, nah, nah, nah, rubbish, waste of space," etc..... I think the above names combined for one solitary goal, a deflected Sanogo shot that was heading for the corner flag in an FA Cup tie at Southampton. I'd love to know where that leaves the £ per goal ratio invested in these gentlemen.

To be fair Doyle did score in the 4-0 cup win at Dover, but otherwise I accept your point. We used to be a club that brought in rejects from other clubs or from the lower leagues and turned them into good players. Now we just seem to try and sign big names, normally on huge wages and on their way down and interested in little more than those wages.
