What other chairman has kept us in the top flight for this long?
Trick question?
What other owner saved us from going under?
I know this seems to wind up other posters for some reason I don't fully understand.
If you want a proper assessment of our identity it probably (until recent times) is a struggling league two (translation into modern football - championship side who occasionally outperform their fan base)
Team of the eighties never made it.
Ron Noades never took us under by over investing but the sold us.
We have never, ever enjoyed a period of top flight football for so long.
And every season we have been financially secure.
But every season has been a battle to stay here.
Yes it doesn't seem to be working after three whole games but the very definition of madness is continually doing the same thing and hoping that something different happens.
Can we at least wait until the transfrer window is closed and Frank has had the eight games it took Big Sam to get going.
And by the way he didn't finish that convincingly either.
I don't want to see us fail but if you are talking "identity" then at least we are seeing an introduction of our accedemy products.
Let's all take a deep breath and remember how long it took Big Sam....

There always one. Look how far we come. Get real buddy. Most appointments have been a disaster. Too many refuse to blame parish. Never do wrong. Well he see it didn't work with an attacking style in pardew sacked him , appointed a firefighter. Then takes 6 weeks to appoint a manager that similar style but less effective style to pardew. No blame for parish. Really.

Put your money in and let's see all you quitters have a go. Jesus the Palace quit gene is in full effect right now.
Whatever system you play cannot legislate for Kelly giving away two goals.

Parish is stale and is holding us back now. Think we need some new blood and a fresh direction at the top. He could still be Chairman but not a hands-on one.

I beg to differ. We have come so far under the current board and we are only three games in.
Yes it looks bad. But we struggled to get going under Sam and it all looked terrifying then.
Do we remember the articles asking where the hell the Big Sam bounce was?
I can remember plenty of times we have looked this hopeless. But I hope that better times are ahead. But I might easily be wrong. I was optimistic about Holloway (Tbf he took us up albeit built on Dougie's work)

Cast your minds back when last December, when big Sam was appointed and the words that Steve parish used was the player need a system their comfortable in and it's time to turn back the dial. My question is did he see Dann, Kelly and others struggle to adapt to a possession based game under pardew. Our DNA has always been hard to beat, good counter attacking side. When you appoint a manager that been schooled in the academy of Ajax and Barcelona, what style did you think we are gonna play. Unless there's a considerable budget, should appoint a 40 pts manager and not gamble with our prem status.

Is parish to blame for our lack of identity?

We haven't lost our identity at all, in the 50 odd years I have been supporting, its always the same. We climb to the summit, only to self implode and fall back down.
Its nothing different now, maybe you haven't been supporting long and only known the highs, possibly the worst was being team of the 80s, then end up with bloody Mullery in charge.
No point blaming Parish its in our DNA.

Adding so much to the debate there.

The buck stops with the manager and Kelly should not be anywhere near the first team

In reply to painter I would say we aren't being true to our identity as we have stayed up since 2013. That's so not Palace!.
Although the merrygoround of losing successful managers just as we seem to be getting it right feels spot on. Sadly.
I don't blame anything other than this is who we are. I want us to be better - but come on a capacity of less than 25 000, we are a small club; albeit with a big heart.
Ok we haven't hit the heights of '90 - 91 but we went down two seasons later.
The solution isn't sacking someone who has barely got going.
Maybe Frank will fail. It does look grim. But the ginger one might also have failed. Assuming that following the style that only just kept us up and failed in the last few games is a bit grass is always greener
