OK, after having read the posts here I can safely say we need a new goalkeeper, a new CB, a new LD and RD, more options in midfield and a striker? All makes perfect sense to me...

We do need to add to the squad and we have got our 2 x loaned players on board. Doesn't really leave us much option, and we do need cover for Bentekkers... Edited by Gary St.Andrews (20 Aug 2017 8.38am)

Anyone thinking we dont need to strengthen is mad. Gk Cb and striker are a must. Only spent 8m and got some of that back for mandanda. We do have money if we stand still we will go down. Needs sorting now as we are giving everybody a head start.

There is one stumbling block with signing Sakho or more to the point £30 million where's the money coming from. Sell Ward? Jimmy Mac? How much they gonna raise...£10 m between them and know one is sniffing around them. Sakho is a pipe dream, accept that we aren't getting him and move on. Remember when we had Ashley Cole on loan great when we had him but could never afford him.

Steve Parish on BBC Radio 5Live Show right now and he's always good to listen to. SP-Hectic as Transfer Deadline day approaches, we probably need 3 signings in ideally but financially we also need to get some players out

In my mind yes the £40m does count but as we are in new season with new income streams and budgets not hugely important. With a new manager in and SP buying into this new style of play a (current) net spend of £8m is not enough to change a complete style of play. Our team has for years been build around 4 at the back and counter attacking style. To change this is a real massive change and its not only unfamiliar to some of our players but some of our players strengths don't suit this. This means we either get them to learn if capable or purchase. After a current net spend of £8m and SP saying we probably need to sell to buy is a little worrying. Yes there are obvious players we need to get rid of but they won't be the high fee players. Its great saying FdB needs to go he is no good....If we don't back him with players and finances he may well walk. SP can't do this huge change in style and play on the cheap. It seems he picked a manager and style he wanted with a necessary budget we can't afford. I hope we back FdB with the players required and that doesn't have a detrimental effect on the size or quality of the squad as we should be progressing after 5 years. I have a feeling this (another) experiment may end in tears. I hope I'm wrong. Originally posted by alaneagle1

I would be amazed if there wasn't any business conducted..

My understanding is that it was just shy of £40 IF all the add-ons come into play. Leaving aside the add-ons my understanding is that the figure is in the early £30 mill which includes the Sakho loan fee. Edited by Willo (20 Aug 2017 10.36am)
