The fact that he won more aerial battles than anyone else in the EPL this weekend should make you think that maybe, just maybe, he could do with some support...........like Mounie had. Look at any side playing 3-4-3 and it's clear the (attacking) intention is to have the main striker as a focal point, not simply a goal scorer - it gives him support & options (when done correctly).

So Den, your strategy is sell him? Ok maybe we will get £25m. Who do you replace him with? And I would like a comparable. So an experienced international with lots of PL experience and guaranteed to score goals. Can you give us your suggestions and probable prices?

So basically, Benteke should ditch his primary (and widely recognised) asset - aerial power- and adapt to the experiment? Fine. Agree 100% we need to be able to play different systems but square pegs in round holes doesn't work let's go to 433 we understand it it works and have they players if and when we have the points experiment.

I totally agree with what CB has said about the new formation its a new system maybe but Chelsea adapted very quickly last season to it and won the title lots of teams in the premiere league now play it and the players are paid handsomely enough its like starting a new job takes a couple of weeks to get used too and they have been playing it now sin e pre season so us CB has said get used to it and no excuses

Who said anything about selling Benteke more about telling him to up his work rate and make things happen rather than waiting for them. Can't afford luxuries when you need to work as a team!

We may have had 12 corners but how many of them got past the first defender? Can hardly blame CB for not converting! PVA in particular needs to put in some work on his corner taking this week.

You ask are very valid question and the answer is I do not know but then that is not my job and thereby you also open a can of worms because if SP was less controlling and we had a decent set-up like Soton with a decent director of Football (Les Reed) then we would know who to target from our intelligence files sadly we do not, we have brought in several strikers over the last few years and non of them have been that great either due to being injury prone, lack the fitness or not having the ability required. There are good strikers out there and available both in Europe and in Scottish football as well as the feeder leagues. As an example there is Jackson Martinez at Porto who has scored 80 goals in three seasons but although available is probably out of our league

I can't deny the value of the goals that CB scored last season, nor his superiority in the air. However, some posters are saying we don't play to his strength, but do we really want to base our attacking policy solely on the strategy of getting crosses to Benteke? Surely we need more up our sleeves than that. The same used to be said of Gayle, that we didn't play to his strengths, but how far do you go in adapting to the needs of one player, and one who has limitations? To me it seems that you are making yourselves very one-dimensional and predictable.

Pete, you are so right in what you say, clearly CB is not going to score 2/3 goals every game which is needed with the current defence and until we can stop teams scoring against us we are going to struggle, on Saturday we needed to score four goals to win at home against a team that were favourites before the game to go down and probably will be in the relegation fight ahead with us this season but they already have a three point advantage thanks to sloppy defending and little penetration going forward!

We had a system that was starting to work well in the second half of last season (especially when Sakho was available) and Sam left us in a decent position, both squad, fitness and confidence wise. We should have either purchased Sakho or a suitable replacement before the season started and FIRST build on what we had before starting to pretty things up. Instead we've torn up everything that Sam did and turned ourselves into a bunch of rabbits caught in the headlights, with no clue whatsoever what we're meant to be doing, and it's only taken us six weeks to put ourselves into this powerful position. Every manager worthy of the name, in any field you care to mention, starts by making the best use of the personnel they have and then strengthens the workforce with judicious changes and gradually moulds the team to the way he or she thinks will work best. Regrettably I've seen nothing yet to convince me that Frank has any of those qualities.
Bexley Dave Can you hear the Brighton sing? I can't hear a ******* thing! "The most arrogant, obnoxious bunch of deluded little sun tanned, loafer wearing mummy's boys I've ever had the misfortune of having to listen to" (Burnley forum) |

He even said he was going to change it gradually as well, which is why I am so surprised we have had such an overhaul. It's a bit concerning he said that on day 1 and then decided we are ready for a 3-4-3 with a 19 year and 20 year old making their debuts at the back

just cos hes tall and great in the air doesn't mean he cant play in a pass and move team Dion Dublin, Man Utd
If anything, having a tall target man playing in a pass and move possession based side can confuse the hell out of the opposition, they'll never know when that lump it moment will occur, rather than like last season, all they had to try and do would be to stop crosses coming in.
