We need a goalkeeper painfully, we only have one striker and are lacking in depth. The money in football is ridiculous yet we are only spending £9mil!

I seriously doubt we will sign more than one more player if that. I have always backed SP but have lost complete faith in him, today was only the evidence I needed for backing my thinking. We cannot play possession football without buying about 7-11 new players capable of doing so, we saw that under Pardew so I have to think that SP has bought into a ludicrous fantasy of De Boers here due to a complete absence of any footballing knowledge.

Unless De Boer takes a reality check we are in serious trouble here far worse than some of the s***e we have seen in the last couple of years.

I just can't believe this situation, it defies belief

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

As has been pointed out FDB needs time like Sam, I think it was about nine games until we sorted our s*** out.
Still not sure if we underperformed last season or were lucky to escape relegation last season, it's clear though that we need strengthening, Gk, rwb, and a striker are essential imo.
I like what I hear from FDB, he seems a genuine fella and really hope this works out for him, we need to get behind him and the team and not become negative after one game however s*** it was today.
One bad result is not an excuse for pant wetting, Stoke had a s*** start last season! Coyp.

I don't know why we need to wait for 7-8 games till we get back on track. Why can't we play something fairly reasonable from the beginning? 7-8 lost games means we're the foot of the table with 25% of the league played. As a guy said behind me, it's going to be a long, s*** winter again. I don't know why it's considered to be normal to suffer for most of the season just to (maybe) avoid relegation.

Also, some of us (call us what you want) are sick and tired of seeing Punch lose the ball 25 yards from our goal, tired of seeing Dann unable to play a vertical pass, Ward always (but always) out of position etc. But I guess being a Palace fan means to hope to not get relegated and to see some nice Zaha footwork up close.

whatever you might say about FdB he hasn't been supported by his chairman this window. £8m spent to change a playing style is a joke

So, let's not kid ourselves spartakev these squad/team barely survived last season and someone pointed out barring hull game. Lost 4 out 5 back end of the season. If we want de Boer to be successful surely we have to make funds available for him. I mean Huddersfield have spent more than us. Even teams in the championship. Underinvested at your peril. You get 100+m for staying in this division. He's not a miracle worker and deserves a similar budget. Sod ffp rules, no one else follows them. It's just an excuse not to buy players. 2 loans and an untried Ajax defender. Hardly giving him your full support. Look at Watford for instance, their backing their manager.

Yea, agreed. Couldnt we have gotten Andre Gray at least?! Watford were picked as relegation fodder, and looks like theyll be okay with the likes of Brighton, stoke, us, and bournemouth struggling early on so far

Sam inherited a team in freefall lacking players in a couple of major areas. He sorted out the defensive shortcomings, instilled some confidence and bought the players to plug those gaps.

FdB in contrast inherited a team that should have had plenty of confidence, retained the coach that was allegedly responsible for much of the improvement but chose to change the playing style to something that we aren't used to.

I'm not joining the FdB out brigade and am not commenting on yesterday's game as to be honest I didn't see it but I'm just pointing out that FdB's introduction to Palace was vastly different to Sam's

We don't know that. By all accounts we were about to spend £20m on Chambers until a loan alternative turned up and whilst we need an additional striker we don't need him yet allowing time for us to get the right one at the right price

Good point, I don't understand this obsession with changing our playing style tbh I quite enjoyed the way we were playing at the end of last season, we just needed a bit more quality not a complete change of direction.

I certainly think de Boer making more problems for himself in this 3-4-3. I am really struggling to see who looks affective. I've seen all the games and Benteke doesn't suit our style, even Luka looked poor. Yes, we need a new goalie but we didn't lose yesterday because of Hennessy imo. We lost because half the team want to play and the other half can't. ATM it reminds of the George burley era, trying to force young players in the line up. You need experience in this league. If watching a Tony pulis or big Sam side taught us anything, we need a solid foundation.

Cannot disagree with any of the above. Pardew tried it early on last Season and we were heading towards relegation by Christmas until Big Sam reverted to our more traditional style of play. I do not resent change but more gradually please, preferably after we achieve a respectable tally of points. It seemed that our players resembled headless chickens yesterday not sure of what to do or where to go. Apart from the outstanding Loftus-Cheek and occasional efforts from Fosu-Mensa, the Eagles seemed out of their depth and Riedewald received a rude awakening as to the demands of Premier League Football. Huddersfield, on the other hand, played with no fear to a break away Palace style of football that got them promoted last Season and seem to have made some very astute signings. No need to panic yet as it was only the first game of a transitional period for us but if Huddersfield are the Bookies favourites to go down, SP and FdB had better get their heads together very quickly as I fear for where this leaves us.
