Rejected a new deal so we aren't pushing him out. Pull is will play him constantly and he is good enough to be in a mid / lower table prem side. Hope we aren't screwing this up as he doesn't fit in the present formation. We could be looking for a new right back come December?

Yes, Kelly improved but that's because he had Sakho next to him. Kelly has messed up time and time again, it's so disappointing because I had such high hopes for him when he joined.

Its clear Ward wants regular football but knows he doesn't fit in as a right wing back in a three at the back formation.

Joel may not be the best full back in the country however he is very reliable, extremely durable, doesn't go missing to often or see the red mist!

I'd be sad to see him go but with this FDB project as it were he needs players that fit and also want to be here.

I still remember when we played him in midfield for a few games as he appeared to be the only player in our squad who could pass straight... Oh how far we've come

Yet more benign speculation and rumour... Is a squad game and as such I see FdB utilising the while squad during the year, players like ward no matter how poor last season will be important to have in the squad

No not just when he is played on the left...he is poor in general and IMO he isn't even close to being a Prem quality player.

sad if he went and, as with all the players who got us promotion, you just have to hope we replace with a similarly positive character.

we are aspiring to be at a higher level as a club than i think he can reach as a 1st choice, 1st team player. (not sure we are fully there yet but him not starting is part of that process).

I disagree, he'll never be a top defender but as a squad player for us he's decent. They don't call him the Scouse Bobby Moore for nothing (that might just be me).

IF this (or any of the other departure rumours) has any basis in fact, then my concern would be that we may be placing all of our eggs in the 3-4-3 basket, which is fine if it (hopefully) works, but could leave us with problems if it doesn't. I'd be wary of ripping up all of the old foundations until it's established that the new building is viable.

Tomkins, Fosu-Mensah, Riedewald and Kelly can all play right back - and FdB has been trying out Townsend as a RWB. Also, we have Souare, van Aahnolt and Schlupp who can all play left back. We have Dann, Tomkins, Riedewald, Fosu-Mensah, Delaney, Kelly and Milivojevic who can all play CB.

I love Joel Ward, but he's the odd man out now. Better for him to go where he'll get a game.

We don't do possession; we do defense and attack. Everything else is just wa**ing with a football.

I spoke to a baggies fan on social media and they alluded that they don't have any left backs. I know brunt plays there but not a recognised fullback. He ask me what ward was like. I said he played LB and defensive mid under pulis. He said he can see ward playing left back. Surprising really.
