That's a risk that no-one in their right mind would take Its also a risk no proven striker will take, that they'll be sitting on the bench all season, unless you can sufficiently compensate them for doing so (arguably by either paying them far more than they'd get anywhere else - one way or another).

Most importantly we've sold no one and added 2 decent additions off the back of spending 40 odd million in January so no, I'd actually say we are better prepared this season. this transfer window after the January spending was always going to be frugal, if you want the best out of deals you have to leave it fairly late and with our budget that's what we have had to do. We are Crystal Palace ffs and about to start our 5th season in the premier league.

I'm not being funny but I don't think it should surprise anyone that us and Southampton have currently signed the least amount of players (although not many clubs have made massive wholesale changes, without similar exits) We hired our managers 6 weeks ago and they are still running the rule over the squad. Would you rather FDB did a Hollyoway and brought in more players than can even be named in the squad? Some people really need to get their heads out of their ~*~ and realise that FDB's mission is a long term one and not everything will be solved within 1 window. Some of you really need to worry about other things and relax a bit more when it comes to the football.

We have almost a full team of defensive midfielders but only one possible attacking midfielder in Cabaye. There is no point in passing the ball around to the back and to the side ad-infinitum until we buy someone who has the skill to take the ball forward, giving time for forwards to get into position. There is too much 'one touch' stuff which gets intercepted easily. Still plenty of time to buy but not enough to blend the newcomers. I forsee some unwelcome results especially at home where we seem to have developed a jinx against lower teams which needs sorting urgently.

There's always someone that likes to take things to the extreme but I suppose that we are lucky you didn't claim that if we spent more than £4.50 we'd end up in Administration

Hi Al, hope you are good, sorry to disagree but fans do have the right to moan, after all they are the paying customers and they want the best for the team. You must agree that our investment in the team this transfer window has been rather poor compared to those teams around us who will also be fighting the relegation battle this coming season. Our defence is poor, the goalkeeper suspect and FdB wants a passing game out of defence using defenders that only know the big boot and hope clearance or are otherwise rather past their sell by date. I can understand that you are a glass half filled person and that has to be admired but being optimistic is not going to keep us out the relegation battle unless some quality players come in before the window closes. Hope I'm wrong but have a bad feeling about Saturday, we will probably have a lot of possession and attacking but in the end the defence or GK will make a mistake and we will lose 0-1! Yes, we all have a right to moan. And we all have a responsibility to moan with good reason. All the while there are no competitive matches, there is no reason to moan. Start the moaning when our league position is a cause for concern. Until then give us all a break. Thank you.

Absolutely - especially as there are no glaring holes in the squad (like starting last season without Benteke) and it's not a squad which looks in danger of a relegation fight.

I think we need to be realistic about bringing in cover for Benteke. We can't spend big money on a striker and then not start them...can't see many top players wanting to bench warm for CPFC So then you have to look at the next option..cheaper and probably not prolific but someone that at least plays regularly in that position and would look upon Palace as an opportunity. Waiting for Wickham to get back to where he was pre injury is a huge gamble that I'm sure the club don't want to take, but finding the player I just described, if that is the solution, is not easy.

Unless we buy someone who's versatile and can play in a few positions like bolasie did. We quite short in wing positions in terms of quality. I like Lokilo but for him to be 3rd option if something happens to Wilf we screwed.

Concur. But wasn't that player Frazier Campbell? Can he score goals? No. But he would have tried his hardest in between the hypothetical Benteke injury and the return of Wickham. He ran his knackers of against Liverpool and I believe Tottenham at home last season (could be wrong). He was vital in holding up the ball when Tomkins went off injured at Anfield. If Benteke gets injured I'd rather play Campbell who knows the position and tell him to just stand there, be a nuisance, feed Wilf, Townsend and Cabaye for the goals over say playing Zaha or Puncheon as a striker etc. Or having faith Ladapo is actually going to try as hard.

Don't play 3-4-3 and we'll probably be alright this time. Play it and I'm not sure. Last season we threw away too many points vs West Brom and Bournemouth at home with Spurs away in between. Left us with 1 point from 9 and near enough bottom. Pardew's amateur approach and lack of fitness were a factor, but I'll never forget the frustration at the Holmesdale end when defending a corner vs Bournemouth in the 1st half and the team all over the shop. We can't be complacent vs the poorer sides in this easier start. The aim is to progress away from the bottom, not make it difficult for ourselves to do so. Difference this time we have a manager who knows the system. Have faith
