Optimistic for a number of reasons.

We have a better team than the start of last season after our excellent January signings.

We have added 2 quality youngsters, with hopefully another couple coming in.

The team will he fitter than they were at the start of last season

Dann for whatever reason had a poor season last year. Looks more like his old self in pre season.

The team will go on the pitch knowing exactly what us expected of them. Something that wasn't true under AP.

We will have a plan B. Although people seem worried about 343, I think it will be an additional way of playing, rather than the only one. I expect us to play this way if we can, but if it's not working, or depending on the oppoit ion, or home and away, I trust frank to change the style. Something that AP didn't do.

So on the whole I am very optimistic. ...

Spot on could not have said it better myself.

We are 100% staying up and the bookies don't know their Ajax from their Porto.

I will bite: I am worried! Way too much emphasis on a new system, which is even a system he has never before used nor played in just a copy of what Chelsea did last season. Also slightly worried about the expectation level as we have a decent starting team but reality is that there is very little back up.

I like him as a person but have had my doubts when he was at Ajax even though he made them Champions 3 times in a row. He also may well have the van Gaal trade of "knowing it all" , though if results went wrong he would not keep that up.
I am also not in the frame of mind of "he needs time", he needs results then tweak a new system at whatever speed is possible but not at cost of results. You make your own time, you do not get it granted.

I am positive on one thing and that is that he will try his utmost to bring some youngsters from the academy through and will be for English standards very daring in doing so as he is used to a culture where 17/18 is a kid and one is considered mature at 23/24.

I dislike intensely this talk of him never having played this system before, DEJ. It has removed my main crumb of comfort that he would know it inside out. he's bold all right...lets credit him that! aiaiai. my worry just moved up a notch

I've been going too long to ever get too excited, I've learnt to expect the worst then I can't be too gutted when it all goes tits up, anything other than the worst is then a bonus!! :-)

Worried on a number of counts.

1) No back up for Benteke
2) No new keeper
3) I honestly thought he would come in and play 4-3-3 which he's played all through his managerial career and suits our squad so much better. 3-4-3 really seems square pegs in round holes -- Townsend at wing-back for example, is that really going to work? If I was the opposition I'd be targeting the space in behind him...

I'm hopeful but the new system does worry me. I'm watching the Liverpool - Bayern Munich and Liverpool are pressing high up the pitch causing Bayern a lot of problems.

Would the defenders we have at present feel confident enough to play out from defence, rather than hoof it, if they are pressured? If they do are they good enough or will they lose possession in dangerous areas?

We wouldn't stand a chance, 3-4-3 just won't suit our players, we're gona get found out. I'm also concerned with the tempo we've been playing at in pre season we're looking a bit off the pace to be honest and a lot of players aren't getting enough minutes.Sorry to sound negative , I really hope I'm wrong and it works out for de boer.

I'm optimistic. The system looks promising, the defence looks mostly solid, Wilf is closer to Benteke which I've wanted since it worked at Chelsea away, we are controlling games with our best team out against similar level sides. The depth is obviously a worry and we need a new keeper and either a RWB or someone to go in the front 3 while keeping Townsend there. This season will be one where we build and don't aim too high given that Frank will need 2 more windows to make this properly his team. I hope the fans are very patient (obviously Parish will be). This is the way to becoming a Southampton or whoever, a top 12 team that can eventually aim for higher.

This is why I'm excited.
Could have gone with any number of managers and it might or might not have worked out. But this is the manager who could really kick us on a gear. Fingers crossed.

WDWW

With the D and at least two of the W being squeeky bum specials.

3-4-3 Is scary, but f*** it FdB is no mug.

Sort of expecting/hoping a couple more signings will see us get the personnel to keep us in the game.

Frankie has pull, Premier League has pull, London has pull and as has become blatantly obvious in international press, Selhurst with its noise and support has pull.

Of course we are Palace, so as long as we end up higher than the weed It's all cool.
