He shouldn't be in the first team, he shouldn't be captain and he most definitely should not be played at rwb.
He should be on the runway at Gatwick directing aeroplanes.

Punch remains one of the most underrated players by most of our fans. If you watch him off the ball, watch his positional awareness and his communication then you'll see what he does for the team.

Gotta be a joke? He's got the worst positional awareness out of the whole squad.

He covers a lot for other players, also you just said he shouldn't be captain which you are totally wrong about. When Dann was made captain I called that it would be a mistake (and not just because of the circumstances he was given it), I was proved right.

Who would you have as captain?

Puncheon is the most communicative player on the pitch, Cabaye barely speaks, neither does Ward, Delaney was a good captain but is in and out of the team, Milivojevic may be a good captain one day but he's not been at the club very long.

Last season the only one other than Puncheon that looked like a captain was Flamini in the couple of cameos that he had.

Remind me again how one-footed Punch is, and what foot that is.....?

And there ends the discussion, IMO.

Townsend uses his right but you can hardly say he's two footed either, so being left-footed doesn't seem to be a major factor at the moment for FdB in that RM/RWB slot.

Townsend is a master of foot ambidexterity compared with Punch.

In my opinion Punch shouldn't be in the team anymore & now be a squad player.

If it wasn't for his goals in our 1st 2 seasons back in the Prem be wouldn't of stayed up & I will never forget that goal he scored at Cardiff but he has been poor for the last 2 seasons.

His performances did improve when he was made captain last season but I think his best days are long gone now & not a goal threat anymore which was 1 of his best attributes.

I wouldn't want to sell him though & would be a good sub to have to come on for the last 15 mins if we are chasing the game.

Whoever thinks he would make a great right wingback is on f***ing drugs!

Wow, I agree with your first four paragraphs, but it appears that this thread has gone from perhaps it's the only place that Punch could get into the team as captain, to I think he'd make a great wingback and I'm on drugs. Read the thread properly, by all means comment constructively but abusive throwaway lines show no class whatsoever.

All spot on and the end made me laugh out loud. So true. You need engine and pace as a wing back. He has neither.

I think chambers could be an important cog in the switch to a 4-3-3 during matches. He's capability to play rb in a 4 is super helpful. I think puncheon could play alongside Benteke and Zaha if needed. Whether we like it or not puncheon will play.

Sorry eaglcoops.. Milner may not have real pace but his engine is one of the best in the premiership. Or least had bee for years. Hence why he made England international.

Puncheon is actually slower than him for one. His engine and going full spec late on ain't great either. Then there's being pulled onto his right foot all the time. considering he is really only a left footer too makes this all even more a worrying thread.

Then you've said townsend doesn't tackle as good. I disagree. Townsend actually puts his foot in like a defender would... He has that tenacity. Whereas puncheon defends exactly like a cam does.. Just shields and area so to not be drawn in. A rwb needs to be more physic deffo.

Puncheon could.. No... Would actually... Make quite likely the worst rwb in living history.

The guys gotta put his shooting boots on this season or sadly will be his last. Love the dude but you can't ignore his stats of late.

Wilf would make a better wingback.
