Never seen a loanee become captain after playing 30 minutes for the club. Lol

Chelsea play 3-4-3 but their three at the back are not exposed for pace - none of our three at the back today are particularly quick and some darned right lacking in pace ! But of course this 'unit' won't be in our line-up for the Huddersfield game.

Potentially subject to transfer..

Hennessey
Tomkins Dann Martins Indi
Townsend Cabaye Luka PVA
Zaha Benteke Loftus-Cheek

Townsend probably looks the weak link but going forward it's double trouble.

Although I still don't see how we get Cabaye on the pitch without loosing Luka or Loftus Cheek?

Did Wilf play as a wig back today or as part of the front three?

Loftus-cheek will play where Anderson is.

My view is that it will all depend on injuries. our 1st choice 11 could have us 8th by January. however, replace Wilf or Benteke from the squad and we'd struggle in any game.

If Riedewald signs and is any good, particularly in defensive midfield, he could be an outstandingly astute purchase.

We don't currently have the personnel to play that system and, although we all wish it wasn't the case, they aren't in the U23s either. On that showing today, we'd need to sign seven or eight to play that system and we just aren't going to do that. There's three and half weeks to perfect this transition before we need to do it for real, and that just isn't enough time.

Frank has no experience of the PL as either a player or manager. Most of his experience is at Ajax who were able to dominate a league that, with the best will in the world, isn't the standard of the PL. He has no experience of a relegation battle, if he gets into one. He accepts that his failure at Inter was because he tried to change too much, too soon; I was hoping that he'd learnt from that.

As for Riedewald; I've always found it's better not to count unhatched chickens amongst your flock.

We get rid of Puncheon, he sadly looks lost...

If we are to play 3 at back then we could be ok with Ward/Reideweld, Dann and Tomkins. My concern would be Townsend as RWB. He's still not great defensively.

Sadly, Delaney looked really off the pace today although the humidity looked pretty bad.

Zaha looked really good, Loftus-Cheek looked encouraging for the short spell he was on the pitch. Of the youth players compared to Liverpool's we are miles behind. Anderson was ok but lacks the composure needed.

Anyhow, early days, some encouraging signs and still a few weeks to really get the team playing Franks way. Saturday against West Brom will be interesting. I would start with this 11:

Gk - Hennesey
CB - Ward
CB- Dann
CB - Tomkins
RWB - Townsend
LWB - PVA
DM - Luka
CM - Loftus-Cheek
CM - Cabaye (Capt)
No 10 - Zaha
CF - Benteke

Doubt this will happen given he has said Punch will be captain. Big mistake this early to make this call as I think pre season will tell Frank he is not good enough!

3-4-3 no good for us with current personnel, but if we have to then
Hennessey

Tomkins (right), Dann (middle), Reidewald (Left)

Townsend (right), Luca and RLC (middle) PVA (Left)

Zaha, Cabaye and Benteke

Could this format work with Cabaye sitting in behind Benteke and Zaha and providing quality ball which is something Puncheon failed to do all last season. You could swap RLC with Cabaye if passing from the back is that important. This is of course with current personnel, there may be some upgrades which based on this formation can only be a quality right wing back and maybe a different goal keeper

That would likely work considering the engine he's got then it's basically a five man midfield if he drops back.

Is that where he played today?

If this is the way de Boer goes all season then it's pointless naming ward, Delaney in the squad as neither fit the formation.
