This post has been merged from a topic called 'John Mccormick RIP' by kenbarr A very sad day. I will never forget that Sheffield United game. That was the first time I saw us score more than two goals and actually win! John's goal was the icing on the cake. But his real contribution was in defence as others have said.

Really sorry to hear about this. He was one of my first Palace defensive heroes with John Jackson, David Payne, John Sewell and Mel Blyth. Me too. RIP

This post has been merged from a topic called 'John Mccormick RIP' by kenbarr Palace Folk Some of you have mistaken me as Big John's son Billy. I'm not. When I learnt of the sad news through facebook last night. I had in the past written to John thanking for being the father figure from a far. I posted the sad news of the Great mans passing. I wrote at the top copied from FB, not considering this eventuality. Sorry to all concerned but mainly John's close family

This post has been merged from a topic called 'John Mccormick RIP' by kenbarr I seem to remember reading in a newspaper / magazine back in the day that he had a season when no opposition centre forward scored against him. RIP Big John , Palace Hero .

This post has been merged from a topic called 'John Mccormick RIP' by kenbarr I asked him for his autograph once when he was sitting on the front seat upstairs on a bus in South Croydon heading for Sanderstead. Little Mezzer in his school uniform got a big smile, a deep Scottish utterance that I took to mean " of course" and an autograph from Big Mac on the front of my maths exercise book. Could never imagine the modern day footballer knowing what a bus was actually for. He was hard as nails as a defender which made my Dad's shout of "give him a kiss McCormick" to a disgruntled centre forward all the more memorable to the young Mezzer back in the day. RIP
Living down here does have some advantages. At least you can see them cry. |

This post has been merged from a topic called 'John Mccormick RIP' by kenbarr Palace have never had a better centre half!! Fantastic player. I might be mistaken but I seem to remember he scored with an overhead kick in a goalmouth melee, possibly against Chelsea in the old first division. Real Palace Legend !
