I agree RvP is past his sell by date, what we need is younger fitter players at the back, Ake, may have cost 20mil, but he is young and played quiet well for Bournemouth last season when on loan so EH knows what he is paying for and is prepared to invest in his back line, we have to do the same like we have already done with the front line!

Because young up and coming strikers cost between 30-40m in current market. RVP still got a decent record in turkey.

he was on the subscription radio station over here again, so no link. quick rundown:

* why FDB? great player pedigree. handled youth at ajax awell. that's a good model to emulate. personal connection with FDB. plays a possession style of game. SP laments that we can't break teams down at home and very open against the counter.
* how many candidates interviewed? 8 or 9. then down to 3. negotiations, etc. picked frank from there.
* new players? something FDB is evaluating. changes will reflect FDB's style and what he wants to do. (again- he goes into lamenting that we give the ball away too much and open to counters).

*****working on something today. someone FDB feels good about. almost there.

* sakho status?: very negative on it. he was on loan. that's over. "not sure that one's going to work out." (paraphrasing): we have other business to get done and this one isn't going to work out. tone was very much, "forget it. not happening." read into if he's playing poker, but did not sound like it in any way.
*style? again, goes into possessing the ball. need to be better breaking down opponents. tighten up midfield-defense link. were way too loose year. luka helped but needs to be better. gave up too many goals at home (cites burnley match).
*goals for the season: staying out of relegation. be like SH. not relegation threatened. improve style of play.

And that is precisely why we will allways be a nearly club, because no Sakho, means no defense,I dont get it ,he was stand out for us,born team leader and loved it here, could of been our best ever signing, but hey ho Steve knows best !!

To be fair I think that the asking price is a bit too steep for us.

What a load of rubbish. Realistically we looking at a 2nd or 3rd choice striker. If FDB philosophy to be believed , then he favours a 433 formation, so we only need 3 strikers. Benteke 1st choice , ??? 2nd choice and wickham 3rd choice. As we will only name 1 in the starting 11. I personally think we could do with that pacey striker. I'd look to Liverpool and try to persuade Danny ings to Palace or even divock Origi.

To me Sakho was a never say die backs to the wall centre half which was great for our counter attacking approach. If we are to see FdB introducing a more controlling type of game it may well be that a couple of players who fit the FdB style will be more productive than a big outlay on someone suited more to another style of play. Let us not forget Liverpool feel that Sakho do not fit their system. I am not saying Sakho is a poor player I am suggesting there might be better value out there that suits the FDB style.

I thought Sakho was class on the ball. Probably the best ball playing CB I have seen in a palace shirt. The reason Liverpool don't want him is because Klopp doesn't like him and has too big an ego to step down from the row.

Sakho may be good, but he is not the only decent central defender on the planet. "No Sakho, no ddfence" is readily disprove by what we did to the bin dippers the other week.

It's not just the asking price. I am amazed it's been overlooked that Sakho'''s agent revealed recently his client has instructed him to find a club that's competing in next seasons Champions League. He wants a fast track back to the French national team and who can blame him?
Spurs were interested but Liverpool do not want to sell to a rival. Favourites to get him are Roma and they'll pay less than £30m to get him too.

roma don't have 30m for a CB. only a handful of teams do and they probably aren't buying. i can't see how LP get that much for him. if he wants CL, i think he's out of luck. maybe everton if he's ok wiht europa.

We probably not just bulking at the fee but also his 120k wages. While he's a fantastic player that extreme for a club that only holds 26,000
