So not political correctness at all, just what you call political correctness. Do you believe that employers should have the ability to fire their staff for comments they make relating to their business or role in the business? Was he hard done by, yes, was he unfairly hounded yet - did he let his employers down, yes and his employers hardly can be said to have done right by him either. But its been the way of the world of protesters long before political correctness, to leverage companies with costs and PR. I'd agree with this though I'm not getting why you have a problem with people identifying this behaviour using the 'political correctness' phrase. Plenty of behaviours were known under different names in the past. Calling this incident an example of 'political correctness' over-reach is fair enough to me. It's happening too often and I wanted to highlight and moan about it.

Like there should be 1st degree political correctness, 2nd degree political correctness and so on. It'd make arguments a lot easier if someone said "You're being 3rd degree racist" because you could go "well yeah, fair enough, but don't you start accusing me of 2nd of 1st degree racism".

This is entirely true... Political correctness is actually about treating people with respect, rather than just making assumptions or being downright rude and discriminatory. The right to be rude and discriminatory is extremely important. You discriminate all the way through your life. Rudeness has a certain subjectivity to it, but most of us know it when it happens....What happens as a result of it should have some level of common sense to it. I accept that private employers of course also have a right to expect their employees to conduct themselves politely. I agree with this point. However, what this guy did was hardly a big deal. It required a word in the ear, not taking their living away. He was sacked due to a private email being publicly aired for trite reasons which exposed both the company and individual to activist bullying in all its unfairness. Bering an old fart I had to Google "Bashment music" as I'd never heard the term and it lead me to this article [Link] where police banned this type of music from a bar in Croydon so it seems that it's OK for Metropolitan Police but not for a bar in Shoreditch

Ought to ban Ed Sheeran too, as a token of goodwill.

Do you remember the reaction to that old drunk Ken Clarke when he said that there were degrees of rape. We are living in an age of reactionary emotion over reason.

Very funny but it demonstrates how people like you mistake social progress for identity politics driven by the interests of corporations and governments. Social progress to me is when people are not dumb enough to care what others say or be told how to think about it. It's when people don't need to be bullied or indoctrinated but instead have genuine values that are conducive to a cohesive and inclusive society. We are way off that right now.

I remember watching that Stewart Lee piece at the time and being mildly annoyed at how he misrepresented and used the typical easy targets to score hits....fair enough...it's stand up...whatever gets a laugh...it's not meant for me, despite no doubt he or his fans thinking he's 'educational'. It did make me smile to know that the 'progressives' would be cheering along though. As long as someone gets something out of it.
