It is an interesting subject. In finance people have been discussing this for some time but as yet the take up is small. The problem being is the age of the decision makers. They are all, a bit like myself c 50 and thinking I have another decade or so left. So let’s put this off and let the next generation deal with it. So the take up will be a lot slower than people think.

Blockchain is a job stealer.

Explain?

There will be a growth in online and automated teaching and learning. Robots will ultimately be cheaper than human equivalents as they don't go sick, need holidays, pay rises or hugely expensive superannuation schemes.

Not saying it will happen in the very short term, but we're not over the financial crisis yet but cuts have been rejected for now. The next crisis we have will be all the worse because this one hasn't been fixed and there will be huge pressure on costs. Teaching is one of many public sector areas that will be affected.

Automation is a better word than robots. That said, it will be the robots that do for Trump at his next election as they've got his supporters' jobs, not Mexicans

Easy. Become s*** hot at fixing broken robots.

Or become a robot.

There have been numerous clever robots over the ages:

Robot Louis Stevenson
Robot the Bruce
Robot Robotson

I truly hope that our leaders try to use it for the greater good. Ultimately any other approach isn't going to end well.

It's affect upon the third world could be beneficial or a complete disaster depending upon this aspect.

I like the idea of a world where people only have to work a day or two a week, with a society entirely geared up towards leisure time. However my suspicion is that it'll be somewhat more dystopian cyberpunk nightmare, than utopian day dreamer. Because people.

If you accept that automation will take a lot of jobs, then it will also create a heavy deflationary pressure on those that remain. Your obsolete fund manager will retrain as a plasterer. 2 plasterers competing for 1 job=lower price for smoothed walls.

Just because jobs are immune from automation, doesn't mean they're immune from the effects of automation.

Always doom and gloom with you. I reckon we'll be going home on hoverboards to a sexy robot that doesn't know the word "no".

Perhaps.....But it could be that capitalism ends up eating itself by indirectly obsoleting itself.

It's not a bad thing if its replacement improves more lives. Capitalism is only worth keeping if it's the best system we have.

If automation improves things for the the west then great....but the potential effects are worrying elsewhere.

Google might differ on the taxes point.
