Equally, Abbott does deserve her critics and her illness cannot excuse her from what she has previously said or her performance as a minister. Expecting personal insults is part and parcel of being a politician and it is way past getting precious about it because she happens to be black and a women. The race and misogyny card cannot blind us from the reality.

He of all people should be very cautious about applying stereotypes to intelligence (given he's an exceptionally intelligent man often portrayed as an idiot because he's a poor public speaker. Get him talking about classics rather than politics, and he comes across very differently).

He's far more of an academic who probably should have stayed out of political limelight, and maybe go into academia. He'd have been right at home teaching classics, history or literature.
