This injury crisis proved that we need 5 recognised CBs in the squad. Are there gonna be any better cheaper 5th choice CBs willing to sit on the bench and being a recognised quantity with regards to morale available? I dont think so.

Have a wee look at the ages of some of Italy's finest defenders when they finished playing. Damo may not be world class but he is a leader, is vastly experienced and provides excellent cover. I also suspect he is on very reasonable wages. To suggest he has been a major part of our problems in recent years is ridiculous quite frankly. First thing Sam done when he arrived was sign Milo as replacement for Jedi who was never replaced. Sam sees the logic in keeping our older warriors within our ranks if the funds aren't there for their replacement. 4th choice warrior on the bench/stands not costing a transfer fee or huge wages. Makes total sense. Hope we keep Kelly to and sign RB cover and another decent CB.

If it's true, it's yet another overly romantic decision and proves we aren't learning from our mistakes. Continuing to pay the wages of a 35 year old who isn't good enough anymore, when we could be using the money on Sakho instead. And when Sakho is injured and we don't have another left footed central defender? Like Speroni, still a decent player to have around off the pitch and I'm glad Allardyce is recognising what the club is all about and the characters and leaders within. Something his predecessor didn't do - so maybe we are learning from our mistakes?? Edited by Stuart Shave (16 May 2017 7.16pm)

Don't really see SP or SA as being overly romantic or sentimental when it comes to players and/or money.

I don't see Damo as anything but a liability I'm afraid. I'd rather see a youth player get a chance than keep Damo. Sorry. Was a fan of Damo once but not anymore. Parrot

And the rest. Your figure only works out at £10k per week. We were paying Glenn Murray that in the Championship six seasons ago. Maybe that's the reason he supposedly can't stand Murray ? lol Allardyce obviously wants to pack the CB positions just in case we have another spate of injuries. Suspect a fair few midfielders will be moving on.

I don't see what is wrong with this. Damo is not a bad defender, will not moan about being on the bench, costs piss all in comparison to a new player, and will provide experience and a voice in the dressing room. On top of that, Damo is a very loyal servant to the club. Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't want him playing week in week out, but he'll do the job that wee need him to, just like the last five years he's been with us. Edited by Dan1994 (16 May 2017 9.53pm)

I see this as a message to Liverpool. Yes, we'd love to have Sakho here but we already have 4 CB's so we're not that desperate, so don't dick us over with the fee.

We need to give Damo more love. As for Sahko/Liverpool, I think our 4-0 against Hull with Hull getting ZERO shots on target should convince all that life won't end at Palace with Sahko gone - star that he is.

I don't think they are, that's the going rate and, if we don't pay it, someone else will. The extra TV money meant all the prices went up. And four CBs wasn't enough this season was it?
