Despite Newcastle getting promoted last night, I was extremely disappointed to see how little their fans seemed to care until they were halfway through the match. I mean, they didn't even start singing until they were 3-1 up at a PROMOTION DECIDER! And so many fans I've seen are saying it's because "they should be so much higher than this" and "it's nothing compared to what they're used to." And we all know clubs like West Ham and Charlton are and were exactly the same.

This got me thinking - is that gonna be us one day?

Now, hear me out. Say we do renovate Selhurst to 35,000-40,000 and stay in the PL for five more years. Won't expectations be raised? Won't we be expected to be compete? Will we become so used to mid table obscurity that we get bored and start demanding better? I mean, we're already kind of starting to see that now with some fans wanting big names in the summer to push for Europe, when in my opinion we need a couple more years of stability after the rocky seasons we've had so far.

I'm fully aware that our fans are far better than the likes of the geordies and the hammers (and certainly the clowns!) and I don't want to try and slag us off by any means, but it is something that worries me. I for one don't want to see us become a club that expects and demands top eight, and finds anything less a disgrace.

If we forever remain a mid table club, with a great new stadium, sold out every match, with the youth coming through... then to me that is job done.

No club has a define right to be top of the league, but when you start buying it, that's when you lose sight of what is important.

You don't win respect by buying it, i mean, look at Manure, fergie made them a force, he leaves, look t them now, how much have they spent since?

Man City, liverpool, Chelsea, Spurs?

I think palace should be a cup team, League cup or FA cup is good enough for me.

Probably but I'm not sure that he'd want to go back there any more

I saw a film about Newcastle, and based on that I certainly wouldn't want to live there. So much violence, and a strange cable car contraption that dumps mining slag a few hundred yards out to sea. There did seem to be quite a few people from London living there though.

Palace since 19 August 1972. Palace 1 (Tony Taylor) Liverpool 1 (Emlyn Hughes)

Has anyone ever met a genuine Palace fan that carries a sense of entitlement?

Cynic or realist? It's a fine line!

Nope. And hope I never do.

I've spent decades going to games expecting a beating so every win or draw has been a bonus - my lad is the same despite him only really knowing us in the EPL.

Will this be five? It's gonna be five! It IS five!

Funny that you should mention those two as their offices have been raided this morning for suspected income tax and national insurance fraud with a number of arrests being made. I suspect that the only thing those club officials will be entitled to now is a phone call.

I'd love it for West Ham to be done for tax evasion after being gifted a stadium from the tax payer (via Boris). A points deduction for both teams next season would be lovely. And Brighton too, for any reason.

It's 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark... and we're wearing sunglasses.

Couldn't happen to a nicer club than West Ham! Though I suppose if Newcastle get docked points we might have to revise this thread to "Newcastle - the next Palace?"
