My starting point is "We are born into an universe in which there is no truth, to live an existence entirely devoid of meaning or substance, defined by the tyranny of aging, before death reclaims our structure, after a period of slowly increasing suffering, that we call life, and the only thing more pointless than life, is being dead". If you are fortunate due to biology, geography and history, then your suffering in this existence may be minor by compare, however you have no real control over this. Beyond that all beliefs are just wishful thinking, speculation but probably more optimism, born out of the deceit our parents tell us because they can't admit this only truth to themselves. Everything we do, think, say or feel, is really just a distraction from our accidental curse of higher consciousness, as the matter that comprises our body and brain, transitions through space-time.

Danny Trejo is the only one I still follow. I know it's not him posting, but a 5 foot tall, 72 year old Mexican looking muscle man posing with for pictures with his dogs is a joy. Mine is the Cat Man of Allepo. For two reasons. The first is that he's either mad, or an incredible human who rather than escape from a warzone, has decided instead to take care of abandoned animals (when not driving an ambulance). Ok this isn't entirely true, as he was recently evacuated from Allepo after several years - and immediately set up another cat sanctuary - for cats displaced by the civil war. Or he's perpetuating a massive Facebook fraud, which is equally impressive. The second, and possibly more important reason, is he only speaks Arabic, which means on Facebook he is entirely incapable of disappointing me. I quite like the absurdity of a man, who faced with almost constant shelling of his home town, caught in the grip of a brutal civil war, opens up a cat sanctuary, and spends his time and money feeding and caring for the animal victims of a civil war.

Yeah but apart from that.....

I find the whole 'believing in a flat earth' kind of impressive, because the sheer amount of mental self deceit necessary to maintain that belief is clearly much more than required to simply accept that the earth is a rough spherical shape (which no one will even care that you believe, even the very religious). Even people with very severe psychosis struggle to maintain that level of conviction (or more correctly delusion) - Most of those schizophrenics who hear the voice of god, are aware that to a large extent, they're talking metaphorically in order to explain a subjective experience. They don't as a rule actually believe its THE voice of god but like the voice of god. I don't think I could actually believe in something that thoroughly. That's beyond faith, its even beyond most psychosis.

I'm not religious but you won't catch me ramming atheism down people's throats because of my own insecurity. Live and let live. Extremely religious judgmental types often secretly enjoy having large things rammed down their throats.

Yeah but apart from that..... Its just s**t we do, say and try to think in order to create some kind of meaning and understand existence, even if its utterly futile, it is our existence. This is why science is so important, it keeps us grounded in that stark absurdity that our existence is a truly phenomenally series of increasingly improbable accidents. Any 'god' is dwarfed by that in terms of awesomeness, when you work out just how improbable your existence actually is on a macro to cosmic scale.

When you realise that even most of the asexual masturbate, it pretty much becomes clear that this kind of person you describe is actually mentally ill. The only difference between them, and the other people in the psych ward is that there are enough stupid people to think they're right (or rather people so desperate to have meaning they'll listen to people who clearly are crazy, rather than just admit their responsible for their own existance).

I don't quite understand why posters are getting so worked up. Last time I looked, YouTube was a commercial company therefore it has every right to decide to whom it "sells" its products and services, within all applicable laws. Use of YouTube isn't a human right. Would-be posters upset with YouTube can always find another file-sharing website, just as people living in the Home Counties can always find another football team to support (i.e. Moan Utd). That's how the free market works.

That's beyond faith, its even beyond most psychosis. It is, as you say, impressive in itself to be capable of such self delusion. Not just that, you also have to create entire fictions about things like celestial bodies, aircraft, satellites, GPS and your own perception. But these people also manage to daily engage in tasks which actually disprove their point of view is amazing. And there is literally no reward at all for their belief. At least with religion, you can see how the whole 'eternity of suffering' could be an incentive to follow a set faith. Astonishing, it literally is like maintaining the belief that you s**t gold.
