Two left backs, a trojan in midfield and like you say, a beast in defense, not forgetting the way they gelled with the squad and fans i would say we didn't blow the bank. SA has a good record getting his money worth.

Totally agree. Defoe would be a bonus. Keeping Wilf and signing Sakho would be a fantastic window. This has to be the boards priority. Losing Yala affected us, and Wilf has so much more than he did. His genuine connection with the club is worth a lot. If he stays and we can sign Sakho, next season could be fantastic.

I'm one of the anti Fat Sam brigade but have to admit to warming up to him. Four wins and only one goal conceded is pretty impressive in anyone's book. However, I'll wait until we're 100% safe before I take my hat off to him.
Cynic or realist? It's a fine line! |

But we would not have got the three points yesterday with him as manager for sure. Though we would have beaten Sunderland and given Swansea home and West Ham away more of a game. Sam's fire in his belly is lit up again and that top trumps Pardew I think everyone will agree. The old fella had a few us very concerned a short while back.

We would possibly have beaten Sunderland, then assumed we were safe and gone back to throwing away good positions with stupid mistakes. As it is we got thumped by Sunderland, learned the lessons, got refocussed, Sakho and Milivojevic onto the park and behold, four games, four wins, 6 for, 1 against and twelve points. Anyone who thinks Pardew would have brought in players of the quality of Sakho and Milivojevic and made them fit in is delusional.

Pardew might have got better performances than Sam in the matches mentioned where we didn't show up, that's probably fair. I won't take last season's win against Chelsea away from Pardew as we were flying at the time but it must be said, Chelsea weren't great last season and the popular tactic was to attack Ivanovic at right back, which we did successfully as well. The points that will be more important come survival are: Sam was, is, and always will be a better equipped manager. His signings are far better overall. These 2 points will hopefully make either Sam's long term stay more welcome than Pardew's, or smoother and/or more successful for his successor rather than a repeat of what we've just gone through. And if he'd been brought in earlier we wouldn't be discussing a few points difference. And Sam would without doubt get more points than Pardew from the start of the season so I don't see the point in discussing how Pardew would get a few more points whilst still eroding fitness, spirit etc to further damage our future. Oh and which other signings would he have picked off back page of the mirror in the Harry Redknapp mould?

Big Sam looks the perfect fit for our club. His made us hard to beat and is getting the best out of Wilf.
