Nice rant Hrolf but I don't have a problem with a right wing politician taking over the post of editor of a right wing newspaper. I have more of a problem with an MP having multiple jobs whilst still coining his full salary as an MP. This is my issue. If he's an MP part time, then pro-rata wages should be the norm. He's an elected representative of the people, his job is to represent them. Whilst I accept there is bias in news coverage, newspapers and news media companies employing sitting MPs is a conflict of interest for both parties.

This thread is just more hypocritical tripe from Gusset. The left bang on about paranoia and prejudice and yet here it is displayed by a lefty. You might think that the man is a cretin or that MP's should not have two jobs but the fact that he is a Tory MP is by the by. I didn't hear anyone on the left claiming bias when Alan Yentob was director of the BBC for example. That worked out well didn't it. Give me a break. Born in Stepney, London. Makes him British. Neither Iranian or Iraqi. He wasn't an elected MP though was he. More of the issue here, the separation of politics and the 4th estate. But I would also suggest that high ranking government and public service employees should not hold positions in private industry either. MP's first, second and third obligation is to the representation of the electorate. If they want to do otherwise, then they should resign their position as an MP.

Yes, 'Controller of the BBC' obviously implies that he had no control. And people really must get over their obsession as to where people were born. Allegiances and prejudices are determined by more than your birth place. The point of your post was to suggest that Yentob couldn't run the BBC efficiently because of where he was from. Then you find out where he is from, which is England, and imply that he still has prejudice, based on seemingly nothing other than this remaining idea in yur mind of him as an Iranian Jew. You're a racist mate. Have a word with yourself.

This is how f***ed our country is. We have some cokehead with absolutely no qualifications, who has tanked our economy and who will go down as one of the most incompetent Chancellors ever, but because he's got a posh name he just walks in to another top job. Social mobility is just a f***ing joke, clearly. If you're up your up and if you're down you're down.

The problem you have though is that your side are having a bloody good tear up at the moment, about whom is more lefty than whom, whom and what is democracy plus whether or not a sizeable portion of your support are anti semites, rather than looking like a credible bunch of people who can adjust social mobility. That and your ideology is bats*** crazy and has been proven to bring economic failure, suppression and mass executions on more than one occasion. Edited by matt_himself (20 Mar 2017 8.06pm)

You're a racist mate. Have a word with yourself. Hilarious. Best straw man argument of the year. I'm not suggesting that I care what Alan Yentob prejudices might be,I'm merely illustrating a point. If we must discuss Yentob specifically, according to Wiki, Yentob's role as chairman of the board of trustees for Kids Company (founded by Camila Batmangheldijh) has come under close scrutiny since the collapse of the charity in early August 2015. He has been accused of multiple shortcomings in oversight and financial management, and of failing to ensure that he avoided a conflict of interest with his position at the BBC. It has been alleged that he intervened there in an attempt to deflect criticism of Kids Company and its founder Camila Batmanghelidjh. Yentob vigorously defended his actions and stated in August 2015 that he was "not remotely considering" resigning over his behaviour. Yentob resigned on 3 December 2015. I love how you lefties seize any spurious opportunity to throw mud. Edited by Hrolf The Ganger (20 Mar 2017 10.23pm)

I was using him to illustrate a point about selective objection to bias. I do not see how a newspaper could employ anyone without bias and it really isn't setting any sort of precedent.
