I'm old enough to remember when Purley was considered very posh.

We have now sunk to a depth at which the restatement of the obvious is the first duty of intelligent men. [Orwell]

We had the highest income per household, not sure if that's still the case though..

Banstead is the new Purley I suppose.

Where do the residents of West Purley go? Local shopping areas are a tip.

Purley is almost one big car park now with take always and charity shops etc.

I'd go along with that. Although Banstead is much nicer than Purley ever was.

Not forgetting that our very own Wilfred Zaha lives in Purley (Central) in Ron's old house.

That's west Purley.

Luka stands out to us because we know how those little things he does count. To anyone who doesn't watch us, they're probably more ordinary

This thread is getting far too pleasant, just admit it boys Surrey is basically Essex but thinks it's Berkshire - Sussex, yes, lovely, Surrey? the posh bits are an out-dated graveyard and the not posh bits Morden, Cheam, Tolworth are as ghastly as Dagenham or Romford ever were, for the miserable A13 in Essex you have the disgusting A3 in Surrey, it has the boredom of the countryside and the squalor of the city. Come friendly bombs and fall on f*cking Surrey - hate the place. One or two nice bits in the west of the county but that's it, and neither of those as nice as Saffron Waldon or Colchester.

It's hardly Slough, old chap!

Blimey how's the homeless and smack problem in Hastings these days? How many shop windows white washed or boarded up?

Parts of Surrey might not live up to the Surrey stereotype of Guildford and Dorking and be a bit flat in its suburban ways but feck me. It's like London now really. Pockets of affluent and not so affluent areas. A few minutes from any of those areas and granted some of them are cr@p and overpriced crap at that, but you're soon in Epsom, Worcester Park etc. Other side of Sutton from the Ben hill estate you have wealth and not far from the Brighton Road in south Croydon you have the Croham area. There's also the A232 out of Croydon towards Bromley that has its nice parts. A lot may lack al fresco eating but I doubt there's much demand anyway.
