Why not. Doesn't appeal to me, but I kind of like the idea of people being able to change their appearance to reflect who they want to be, or see themselves as. I like the idea, that we could all, at some point in the future, control our physical appearance rather than reliance on the vagaries of nature and genetics. Who really wants to be stuck with just being 'average'. This person is clearly changing their appearance to shock and get a reaction. As they are doing that, they have to take whatever reaction they get, and either like it or lump it.

People rarely spend that much money time and pain just to get a rise out of people. Even if they did it says more about those who would be shocked that they'd reacts aggressively rather than just shrug it off

What it says is that the person having the surgery has terrible mental problems and wants to shock. If someone wants to change sex, they supposedly want to fit with their 'true gender' and blend in with society. This person clearly doesn't want to blend in and wants people to look at them and make an impact. Just because this doesn't fit with your world view doesn't make it an incorrect statement.

So what you're saying is that people who look different or act differently only have themselves to blame for not fitting into an approved norm - and that the issue is with the 'victim' for being different, than the 'perpetrator' for being to ignorant or arrogant to just think 'to each their own' and ignore them.

Blend in, and fit with the norm. i.e. conform, obey, don't question, no matter if it makes you miserable, unhappy, depressed or ill.

I'm not agreeing or disagreeing with either of you, but it does beg the question "at what point should friends, family or medical professionals intervene?" Either from the perspective of a correct or incorrect perception that the person is mentally ill, and from the point of view that the person is putting themselves in danger in a society that isn't actually as accepting as perhaps many people would like it to be. I anticipate wildly differing answers, but if your 90 year old nan said she wanted her tits put on her knees, would you go "Ok nan, you should be able to do whatever you want" or would you say "Nan, I think it's time we put you in a home"?
