Yes. They had not been convicted of a crime, held without legal representation for years, tortured, held without appeal by their consulate.

Even if the US was holding them, the UK has a legal obligation to its citizens to provide legal council, and protect their rights.

The state failed to honour the rights of its citizens, and in fact deliberately violated those protections due all UK citizens by the state.

The US should have tried these men, or held them as prisoners of war.

Its pretty clear that some of these men were likely guilty. The problem is, due process in the US and UK doesn't work on the basis of 'likely', its about beyond reasonable doubt.

Remember, not all of those released have gone on to commit terrorism.

As you can see, I am no longer in a position to respond.

If its the Daily Mail it is assumed to be untrue.

They brought this on themselves.

Funny though that you all agreed with the Daily Mail when it ran a story about Ted Heath being a Paedo.....

But a bullet to the head is a matter of mere pence.

That was the thinking of that Israeli soldier who "dispatched" the Palestinian guy who had murdered his army colleagues.... should have been given a medal and commendation... not a jail sentence.

Cue liberal apologists to recoil in horror at my suggestion.

Would you accept it the other way around, if a Palestinian Authority Officer was 'dispatching' an Israeli solider who just murdered his colleagues.

You can, if you're reasonable in your response.

ok, do you believe people should be imprisoned without trial?

I think the Mail were just printing what Cucking had said all along about Heath...

The problem is of course what your definition of 'reasonable' might be.

Over the last few years, more and more people think it's reasonable to spout what could be construed as far right dogma.

That is very silly I have the utmost respect for Mr. Heath never believed a word of any allegations by the Daily Mail.

Defendable through reasoned debate.

So do you believe a democratic nation should imprison its citizens, or others, without trial, and suspend all legal rights, on the basis of suspicion from the state.

Worth noting here, the individual in question, was sent to Guantanmo bay, after being found in an Afghan prison, where he'd been imprisoned by the Taliban as a suspected British Spy. The US suspicion was that he'd travelled to Afghanistan to join the Taliban, and they'd turned on him, and that he'd been involved in attacks on the US (never specifying which attacks).
