All those 'Back passes' to the goalkeeper in the days when he could pick up the ball when it was passed back to him.
Mel Blyth availed of this many times ! Heard he went on to be a driving instructor when his football days were over.Last saw him, many, many years ago coming out of 'Kembers' winebar in Croydon.

I think it may have been The London Standard back then.
But I'm probably wrong.

I recall the 'Evening Standard' and I think the one on Saturday with the scores was the 'Evening Standard' classified edition but it is so long ago and I could be wrong. Also heard of the 'Standard'. Memory not as good as it was !

In Manchester a similar paper with results was known as the 'Pink' and the green paper in Sheffield was the 'Green un'.

Going to a pre season v Partick Thistle as a little boy and having a bottle clip my ear when I was stood at the front of The New Stand.
Those sweatys took that game seriously.
They wanted to fight everyone. Even us kids!

'Partick Thistle' - where Alan Hansen started before joining Liverpool. I recall having a nice chat with him and Steve Nicol in the Executive Bar at 'Selhurst Park' where players used to come to after a game.

I've just corrected that auto spelling.

They weren't very friendly that day though.

It's 12 o'clock and I've got to go to work tomorrow, or rather today.
It was marvellous reminiscing but I must bid you a good night.

Another memory from my childhood is walking up to the ground and seeing either a BBC lorry or an LWT one.
You then knew we'd either be on MOTD on Saturday night or The Big Match at Sunday dinner time (or lunch time as posh people called it), just after University Challenge.

It seems like nothing now in these days of wall to wall TV coverage but back then it was almost magical.
Especially if you were a kid.

I make you right there, it's amazing all the football on TV now compared to how little we had as kids,I bet the youngsters now would find it hard to believe how little there was on back then.
We actually had to go to games for our football fix and to see our team, no live games except the cup finals and only a couple of games highlights on MOTD and 3 I think on the big match, nothing else, not even the goals!!! So to see that big match lorry and find out our highlights were on, even in division 3, was really exciting,,,,happy days!!

Yes, none of all these 'Live' games we see today.

Had to avail of the radio for 'Live' commentary. And watching the FA Cup Final whilst adjusting the TV aerial on top of the TV to get a better reception - I recall 'Round' aerials and 'V-shaped' ones.

I have just been informed that our former imposing centre-half 'Roger Hynd' died at the weekend at the age of 75. RIP.
