problem starts with the manager & the buck stops with him. the majority of our squad has comfortably kept us up for 2/3 seasons so they just beed organising & motivating properly. lets not stroll out the lazy line of they arnt PL quality as historically almost every one has proved himself to be.

agree 100% with 99 and cucking re the team - the problem maybe how the club sees itself - I was listening to Pulis recently talk about west brom re developing their squad - getting solid 'spine' players like fletcher and grooming their youngsters to learn from those players and eventually take their place - exotic players with exotic names, hairstyles and salaries being dropped in as a Plan B once plan A goes pear-shaped every season is catching up with us - i'm as desperate as any for us to get to the fifth year in the top flight for the first time, but long term we would probably be better off building in the champ with someone like Kenny Jackett in charge and doing something like what Dyche is doing at Burnley - spend the money on getting the ground up to date, then the big time charlies might feel they've got a suitable arena to show their class. Where are our youngsters?

Home form, its been shocking for 2 years. Away form masked this for a while when Pardew took over but barring home wins over City and Spurs fairly early during Pardews tenure its been woeful since Pulis left. Also how about being able to score the first goal.

No, it certainly isn't as simple as that because two of our four away wins were in September last year, when AP was having one of his famed 'golden periods'. As others have said the answer is more complex. Edited by Slimey Toad (05 Feb 2017 3.24pm)

We have had systemic problems with an imbalanced squad, and no real spine to our team for 18 months. Throw in a chronic lack of confidence due to almost 14 months of bad form, and it is no wonder we are struggling. I didn't want Sam, but he has addressed the imbalance in the squad and he has an excellent record in the Championship should we end up there. I'm with Cucking, as I don't think any other manager would do better right now.
If you come to a fork in the road, take it. |

This all comes down to two things, and I am not blaming Pardew, but he tried to change our style which just didn't work. The whole team defensively has looked confused leading to numerous

Sad to say that yesterday Palace lost more than a match, they probably lost a large part of the fan base and they finally confirmed they lost the pride, resilience and the fight that used to define the club. Ever since Bolassie was injured and then traded, the whole balance of the team has suffered. The defense is mediocre but the midfield is atrocious and we are always on the back foot - even when going forward! It's a one trick pony - bang the ball in to Benteke and hope that something happens, but its not structured and there is no football IQ on the pitch. The team needs: 1) Leadership and smarts on the field. While I'm not the biggest fan of Big Sam, at least he has started to own the problem, Pardew never did - and that spread through the whole clubhouse, staff and players alike. The question is ... can Big Sam get the players to own the problem when they are on the pitch, especially if they go a goal down!

I think the big problem is mentally. As a fan I am sick to death of loosing, I don't really look forward to games and am so nervous during the games sometimes I feel sick. If we let the first goal in now I know we will loose. If we miss a couple of chances I know we won't score. If a player f***s up I scream at him.... Now if I feel like that as a fan....how are the players feeling....

There's no captain going to the corner of singing n loud fans thanking them for their contribution win or lose WHY ?
It's been five weeks under the 'New order' Sam needs to get 'in touch' with the fan base for sure, n geeee them up The players also need to do this, as Julian tried to do a short while ago to the singing section We need that encouragement .... that energy...right now.....! Also guys n gals can we look past blame and just get behind our team please and stand up and be proud and be PALACE !!! We need to get back our rep for being loud and being great supporters do we want Brighton to swap with us ? I'm going to stoke next sat now as a result of yesterday to contribute let's turn this around peeps n play our part as loyal fans R.I.P Dear Staffie COYP Dry your knickers and SUPPORT the team and the management.

Cucking's post is as ever an interesting one. I personally think there were several contributing factors, one of which was huge. The smaller issues were things like Pardew's treatment of club legends and the fact that actually, all the talk about his ego was accurate - that rarely works. He didn't get that we always need a warrior leader, so when Jedinak began to fade he wasn't replaced. But the biggest single issue, and the one that has also hampered England for 50 years was not playing the right system for the players available. Pulis, who, personal issues aside is the best manager we've had since Coppell, is a master at this. He looks at the squad, established how they can best win points and plays that system, then gradually improves the squad over time. Pardew had an idea of how he wanted us to play and tried to get the players to do this. It was a big miscalculation and that coupled with some disharmony and probably other internal issues led to the drop off a cliff that Cucking talks about. The whirlpool we're now in where that leads to lack of confidence and abuse from the stands making it worse and worse and needs surgery. Well, what is that surgery? Firstly Sam knows now, without a shadow of a doubt, exactly what the problem is - I think even he was shocked at the collectively destroyed spirit and wet paper confidence. He can address it. What should he do? Well, he needs to get rid of the players sadly not good enough at this level, Ledley and especially Hennessey. Mandanda can't come back soon enough. Get Sakho and the Serb in pronto - both gambles in different ways but you HAVE to change the current team. Get Remy and Townsend back in, they both at least look hungry. I'm not saying that will do it but it will give us a chance. The destruction of a team's spirit takes a long time to recover from, we probably don't have enough time, and may need a relegation to sort ourselves out. But frankly, after being shell-shocked at half time for the first time in 36 years, I'll just take some fight and organisation right now.
You'll be forever in my family's memories and it was an honor and privilege to play and lead in the red and blue |
